Last year, Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud and San Antonio Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama dominated their respective sports to win their league’s Rookie of the Year award. They put up jaw-dropping stats and were the talk of the sports world.
Now, their terrific rookie campaigns will be immortalized by Topps with a dual-autograph card that’s part of an extremely rare high-end pack. Here’s everything you need to know about the super rare card.
C.J. Stroud and Victor Wembanyama Share New Dual Autograph Card
The Stroud-Wembanyama autographed card can be pulled as part of Topps’ new luxury trading card set, Mercury, which is designed to celebrate Wembanyama’s incredible rookie season. The Mercury packs will feature eight cards and cost a whopping $8,000.
The Stroud-Wembanyama card is one of six dual autographs featured in the rare box set. The other Wemby dual-autograph cards are with LeBron James, Shaquille O’Neal, David Robinson, Tony Parker, and Jason Kidd. The dual-autograph cards are available in one of 70 packs, and there are 10 copies or less of each dual-autograph card.
While Topps has yet to release a photo of the Stroud-Wembanyama card, here’s an example of what the dual autographs look like:
The Mercury packs will go on sale on Oct. 9, and Topps will hold a drawing to determine who can purchase them.
Topps describes the Mercury packs as a “high-end trading card product [that] commemorates Victor Wembanyama’s rookie season dominance with an unprecedented collection of Chromium autographs, inscriptions and game-worn memorabilia from the 2023/24 season.” As for the dual-autograph cards, they chose “an exclusive group of fellow Rookies of the Year or legends of the game.”
Stroud and Wembanyama were both sensational as rookies, with the Texans quarterback earning the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year award and the Spurs forward taking home the NBA’s Rookie of the Year honor.
Stroud threw for 4,108 yards, 23 touchdowns, and just five interceptions while also rushing for 167 yards and three touchdowns. The Texans quarterback finished ninth in NFL MVP voting, earned a Pro Bowl nod, and he was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team.
Meanwhile, Wembanyama averaged 21.4 points, 10.6 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 3.6 blocks (leading the league), and 1.2 steals while shooting 46.5% from the field. The Spurs forward led the NBA in blocks, finished as the runner-up in Defensive Player of the Year voting, and earned a spot on both the All-Defensive First Team and All-Rookie First Team.
The two Texas-based stars have extremely bright futures, and perhaps we’ll see them collaborate in other ways in the future.
