Free agency has arrived! Pens were put to paper when the NFL league year began. Much of the Pro Football Network Top 100 list of NFL free agents is gone, but plenty of talented players are still available as the biggest week in the NFL offseason rolls on.
Top remaining NFL free agents after Day 1 of the league year
The three big moves Wednesday? Darious Williams joined up with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Pass rusher Chandler Jones agreed to a three-year deal with the Las Vegas Raiders. And then Von Miller stunned the NFL world by joining Bills Mafia. Who does that leave? We explore.
Tyrann Mathieu, S, Kansas City Chiefs
Pittsburgh? Tampa Bay? Where will Tyrann Mathieu land? It’s largely speculation at this point. But it is a bit surprising that the league year began with Mathieu still available. His game took a step back in 2021, but he’s still an asset.
Terron Armstead, LT, New Orleans Saints
Deshaun Watson’s indecision is not only holding up the quarterback market but also the offensive tackle market. But Terron Armstead’s peers might be getting fed up. Trent Brown is visiting the Seahawks Thursday, per ESPN.
Jadeveon Clowney, EDGE, Cleveland Browns
Is it possible that Jadeveon Clowney will sign a one-year contract again? It’s entirely possible his market is not as robust as he thought (again) and could have to sign yet another prove-it deal.
Bobby Wagner, LB, Seattle Seahawks
Pete Carroll and John Schneider took responsibility Wednesday for the poor way in which the team cut Bobby Wagner. That’s all well and good, but if Wagner finds his way back to the NFC West, we think he’ll be determined to make them pay.
Stephon Gilmore, CB, Carolina Panthers
Stephon Gilmore is the best cornerback remaining on the market. But if he were going to get a huge payday, he probably would have by now. That suggests his market value is significantly less than the $14.1 million that Spotrac estimated.
Odell Beckham Jr., WR, Los Angeles Rams
Nothing new to see here. Odell Beckham Jr. is still good, but he’s also still rehabbing a knee injury. The rumor mill has been particularly quiet on this front.
Casey Hayward Jr., CB, Las Vegas Raiders
If Casey Hayward Jr. hadn’t gotten the hint before Wednesday, he certainly did Wednesday — a return to Las Vegas isn’t going to happen, particularly after they traded for Rock Ya-Sin.
Allen Robinson, WR, Chicago Bears
An endearing subplot of free agency has been Matt Judon’s very public campaign to get Allen Robinson to the New England Patriots. Robinson could do a lot worse, particularly if his market is as soft as it seems.
Duane Brown, OT, Seattle Seahawks
We mentioned the Seahawks’ interest in Trent Brown. That may or may not be bad news for Duane Brown. They play different positions, but there’s only so much money to go around.
Rob Gronkowski, TE, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tomorrow, we’ll discuss the likelihood of Rob Gronkowski returning to the Buccaneers now that Tom Brady has unretired. For now, you’ll have to settle for Gronk on stage with Sam Hunt performing “Body Like a Back Road.”
Justin Houston, EDGE, Baltimore Ravens
It’s hard to see a scenario in which Justin Houston returns to the Baltimore Ravens after signing Za’Darius Smith Wednesday.
Jerry Hughes, EDGE, Buffalo Bills
It’s hard to see a scenario in which Jerry Hughes returns to the Buffalo Bills after signing Von Miller Wednesday.
