NFL Draft Expert Todd McShay Reveals This NFC Team Is Split on Whether To Pick Shedeur Sanders as Rumors Swirl

It’s officially NFL Draft week, and with the clock ticking, rumors and speculation are dominating headlines, especially for teams holding top-five picks.

As front offices finalize their draft boards, internal debates are taking shape, often pitting scouting departments against coaching staffs. That seems to be the case for the New York Giants, who hold the No. 3 overall pick.

According to analyst Todd McShay, there’s a divide within the Giants’ organization over the value of Shedeur Sanders, with some pushing for him to be their first-round selection. Eventually, one side will have to give in.

Giants’ Staff Is Divided on What To Do With No. 3 Overall Pick

For months, much of the conversation around the Giants’ 2025 NFL Draft plans has centered on what they’ll do with their top pick. That conversation got more complicated after the team signed veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston for the upcoming season.

Still, no prospect has been more frequently linked to New York than Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders. And with less than a week to go, there’s no clear consensus on what the Giants will ultimately decide.

Draft expert Todd McShay said on his YouTube channel that head coach Brian Daboll’s staff isn’t fully sold on Sanders at No. 3, while front office members are reportedly trying to convince them otherwise.

“There’s still a little push from the personnel department,” McShay said. “That’s Joe Schoen, the general manager, his director of scouting, the college director, all the scouts… someone or multiple people on that side are saying, ‘Let’s really consider Shedeur at three.'”

The coaching staff, led by Daboll, reportedly doesn’t see Sanders as worth the third overall pick. With Cam Ward projected to go No. 1, either Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter is expected to be available when the Giants are on the clock, and both are considered to have higher upside.

Daboll’s stance makes sense in context. The Giants want to win now, and with the coach entering a make-or-break year, drafting a player who may not even see the field in 2025 could backfire, especially with two veteran quarterbacks already on the roster. Carter or Hunter could make an immediate impact.

“This is his opportunity,” McShay added. “And maybe it’s not this year. Maybe he’s got the foresight to know it’s not this year.”

So while the Giants’ front office and coaching staff continue to debate their draft strategy, the stakes are high. If Daboll’s preference wins out and they pass on a quarterback, the team’s performance in 2025 will need to validate that decision. Otherwise, his job may be on the line.
