The Road That Led to Micah Parsons’ First NFC Defensive Player of the Month Honor

Dallas Cowboys edge rusher Micah Parsons was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Month by the NFL.

He is the fourth Cowboy to receive this honor, joining Trevon Diggs, Demarcus Lawrence, and Sean Lee.

Mike McCarthy spoke about the honor, saying, “Rightfully deserved. He was the Defensive Player of the Year in training camp, too. He’s really stepped it up.”

So far this season, Parsons has five quarterback pressures, four sacks, and one forced fumble.

Per Cowboys PR, Parsons has 10 career games with two or more sacks, the most in team history through 36 career games.

With two more sacks against New England on Sunday, he could have the second-most two-sack games by an NFL player through 37 career contests since 1982, trailing only Reggie White (13). 

Also, if Parsons gets a sack this week, he will become the third Cowboys defender to have a sack in each of the first four games of the season, joining Lawrence and DeMarcus Ware.

Micah Parsons Racks Up More Accomplishments

Last week, Parsons’ sack of Arizona Cardinals QB Josh Dobbs gave him 30.5 in 36 career games, making him the eighth NFL player and first Cowboy since 1982 to surpass 30 sacks in his first 36 career games.

During Parsons’ three seasons with the Cowboys, he has been a two-time Pro Bowler and All-Pro and won the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Month twice in 2021.
