After 4-star RB Javari Barnett’s recent commitment to Alabama, the Crimson Tide has secured another official commitment in their 2026 class. This time it came from one of the top cornerbacks, Zyan Gibson.
Following the commitment, he made his stance clear with an unapologetic message that everyone in the recruiting community is now talking about. He aimed his clear-cut response at the rumor mill that suggested Gibson might flip to schools like Tennessee or Ole Miss.
Zyan Gibson Goes Viral With Unapologetic Message to SEC Recruiting Rivals
After months of speculation and heavy recruiting pressure from SEC rivals, four-star cornerback Gibson has officially shut down his recruitment. You could say he punctuated it with arrogance because he announced it with a sharp six-word one-liner: “They just need to come home.”
No. 5 CB @ZyanGibson has shut down his recruitment, he tells me.
Committed to Alabama on Christmas Eve — took his OV over the weekend.
Tennessee & Ole Miss also hosted this summer.
His message to other recruits?

According to multiple reports, Tennessee aggressively pushed to steal Gibson from Alabama. Since receiving their offer in October 2023, he has visited Knoxville eight times. Ole Miss also hosted Gibson for an official visit and was considered a serious contender.
Although he initially pledged to the Crimson Tide on Christmas Eve 2024, his visits to Tennessee and Ole Miss this summer sparked rumors of a potential flip.
Finally, today it all ended. The Alabama native chose to remain home, so the nervous fans can breathe easily. “I am shut down,” he told Bama247. “I have been committed for a long time, and throughout the process, the coaches have been showing love to me.”
He also told Brett Greenberg, “They just need to come home.” Now, what does that mean? He might be keeping his options open. But it could also suggest that if other schools want a shot at flipping him, they’ll have to come through Alabama. It’ll be fun to see which program takes on that challenge.
Gibson is ranked No. 46 nationally, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. He’s joined by two other defensive backs already committed to Alabama: Jorden Edmonds, a five-star recruit from Georgia, and Rihyael Kelley, a three-star player who was previously committed to Rutgers.
But Alabama’s pursuit of cornerbacks isn’t over yet. They are reportedly going after another five-star recruit, Jireh Edwards. After visiting Alabama on June 6, Edwards canceled his remaining visits to Oregon and Texas A&M, which is usually a strong sign he’s leaning toward the Crimson Tide.
If all goes as expected, the cornerback could become part of an absolutely stacked defensive roster.
