Tom Brady Pens Heartwarming Note to Chris Godwin After Buccaneers WR’s Devastating Leg Injury

Chris Godwin suffered a heartbreaking turn with a dislocated ankle, and former Bucs star Tom Brady poured his love for him.

Chris Godwin had a sad end to his 2024 NFL season when he suffered a dislocated ankle injury during the Tampa Bay Buccaneers game against the Baltimore Ravens last week. Godwin was tackled low by Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith, and he went down with what was later confirmed to be a season-ending injury.

Shortly after, Tampa Bay placed him on injured reserve, and he’s set to undergo surgery soon. The injury stirred immediate reactions, including an interaction between the wide receiver and the legendary Tom Brady. In an emotional Instagram post, Godwin expressed his disappointment and frustration.

“It’s tough to put the range of emotions into words over the last few days. … I’m saddened that my wife and family had to endure watching another gruesome injury.”

It was a heart-wrenching moment for the entire NFL community, so much so that even ESPN chose not to replay it due to its severity. Meanwhile, the NFL scrutinized the tackle, claiming that Smith had used the controversial hip-drop technique the league recently banned. Following their review, the league ruled the tackle illegal, fining Smith $16,883.

Baker Mayfield Tributes Injured Teammate Chris Godwin

Baker Mayfield gave a heartfelt tribute to his injured teammate by attending the Buccaneers’ Week 8 game against the Atlanta Falcons wearing Godwin’s jersey. The official NFL account on X shared the moment.

“@NFL @bakermayfield wearing @CGtwelve_’s jersey. 🧡” read the post’s caption.

Instead of a Halloween costume, Mayfield chose to honor Godwin, who is out for the season following the ankle injury he sustained in Week 7 against the Ravens. The gesture highlighted that the Bucs’ offensive stars share a close bond.

It is also a step up for the quarterback, who has evolved since his time with the Cleveland Browns two years ago. In July 2022, CBS Sports reported, “Mayfield was viewed as childish and immature, and his behavior divided the locker room.”

However, Mayfield believes in keeping his team close. He claimed via ProFootballTalk that the Bucs wanted him to come in alone to bring the joy back to football, which was missing. Now that Godwin is out, Mayfield is living up to his words with his heartfelt gestures and making Godwin’s presence felt even in a time of chaos.
