Jon Gruden Has Eyes on Cam Ward

Gruden, who won the Super Bowl in 2002 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, admired Ward’s performance against South Florida in September. The 22-year-old quarterback threw for 404 yards and three touchdowns, placing his name among the NCAA’s all-time greats with over 15,000 career passing yards in that game.

“I saw Cam Ward play live against USF. Quick, accurate, strong arm. Good mobility. He can create and hurt you with his legs. He’s a winner… like the way his teammates respond to him,” Gruden said in a glowing tweet.

Ward’s stats this season speak volumes, having racked up 4,123 passing yards, 36 touchdowns, and only seven interceptions. His quarterback rating stands at 171.1. While the Hurricanes have struggled occasionally this season, including a narrow 42-38 loss to Syracuse Orange, Ward has been consistently brilliant.

Scouts from quarterback-needy teams, including the New York Giants, have been watching him closely. Sitting at 2-10, the Giants are primed for a top draft pick and could target Ward to solve their quarterback dilemma.

General manager Joe Schoen has moved on from Daniel Jones and wants a fresh start at the Big Apple.

Ward’s combination of accuracy, mobility, and leadership makes him one of the most sought-after quarterback prospects in the country right now, alongside Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders and Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel. While Travis Hunter may dominate Heisman conversations this year, Ward’s NFL potential could steal the show come draft day in April.

Gruden has endorsed Ward, and the buzz surrounding the Texas native is only growing louder. NFL teams searching for their next franchise quarterback might just have their answer in the Hurricanes’ rising star.
