Steelers Announce Major Aaron Rodgers News

During the first half against the New England Patriots, the Pittsburgh Steelers had an important announcement about Aaron Rodgers.

Little over a minute into the second quarter of their game against the New England Patriots, Aaron Rodgers made history as a member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. A 1-1 start to the season, including a loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2, had put the franchise on the back foot.

As a result, they needed a strong performance coming out of the gates against New England to steady the ship. That is exactly what they got, as the team jumped out to an early 14-0 start. At the center of it all, though, was the man slinging the rock.

Aaron Rodgers Makes History Vs. Patriots

Coming into the league fifth on the all-time touchdowns list, it didn’t take long for Rodgers to take over the fourth spot by passing a man who served as a mentor of sorts to him during his early days with the Green Bay Packers.

Brett Favre had 508 touchdowns to his credit in 302 games. However, for the four-time MVP, it took just 250 games to tie that number. Then, on a 12-yard dot to DK Metcalf on the outside, Rodgers officially made history.

The Steelers page on X immediately had a message ready to mark the joyous moment, stating, “.@AaronRodgers12 (509) has passed Brett Favre (508) for fourth-most passing touchdowns in NFL history.”

Rodgers, of course, started off his career backing up Favre on the Packers for the first three seasons of his career. It wasn’t until his fourth season, in 2008, that he was handed the keys to the operation and given the starting role for Green Bay.

From there, he has put together a remarkable career that has firmly cemented him as a future Hall of Famer and one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, with four MVPs and a Super Bowl ring part of his hardware collection.

However, a rough going over the last three years has made his stint with the Steelers a true last gasp effort from a legendary player. Pairing up with a head coach like Mike Tomlin with a proven track record gives him the chance to write a fitting final chapter to an iconic career.

Through two games, his performance has been very up and down. After an excellent Week 1 outing against his former team, the New York Jets, Rodgers struggled mightily against the Seahawks in Week 2.

Even though Pittsburgh walked away with a 21-14 victory, his performance was once again far from spectacular. Ending the night with just 139 yards, he did add another touchdown to his tally. However, he also had one interception, albeit a minor hiccup compared to the five turnovers by the Patriots.

For the time being, even with a less-than-ideal start to the season by Rodgers, the Steelers have come out to a 2-1 start. With the AFC North wide open, particularly due to Joe Burrow’s injury, an uptick in his play could transform the franchise into a legitimate threat in the AFC for the first time in nearly a decade.
