Steelers 2024 Free Agents: Who Will Pittsburgh Try to Re-Sign This Offseason?

Pittsburgh is rarely active on the free market, but what about its own players? Which 2024 free agents will the Steelers try to re-sign this offseason?

With less than $9 million in 2024 cap space, the Pittsburgh Steelers are unlikely to be active on the NFL free agent market. But could general manager Omar Khan re-sign a few of the club’s internal FAs? Let’s run through the Steelers whose contracts are expiring.

Who Are the Pittsburgh Steelers’ Upcoming Free Agents?

QB Mason Rudolph

Mason Rudolph hadn’t attempted a regular season pass since the 2021 season when he entered the Steelers’ Week 15 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. He stayed in the starting lineup for the rest of the season (even when Kenny Pickett was healthy enough to return), helping Pittsburgh to three straight wins and a Wild Card berth.

Rudolph is only 28 years old, and we’ve seen other quarterbacks thrive after a few years away from the starter’s chair. But the Steelers aren’t ready to move on from Pickett, while the club could also consider external options like Kirk Cousins or Justin Fields.

CB Levi Wallace

Pittsburgh doesn’t exactly have the most exciting crop of 2024 free agents, but Levi Wallace has the highest snap rate (64.3%) of any pending Steelers FA. While his playing time dwindled at midseason, Wallace was back in the lineup as a full-time starter by Week 18.

Wallace will be entering his age-29 campaign next year, but he should be able to find another NFL contract. Although he may have to accept a pay cut, Wallace could be the kind of defensive back who sticks on NFL rosters into his 30s, and a reunion with the Buffalo Bills could make sense.

DT Montravius Adams

Since landing with the Steelers midway through the 2021 campaign, Montravius Adams has started 21 games and earned a two-year, $5 million deal that will take him through 2023. He was sidelined by a foot injury beginning in Week 8, but Adams finished with over 400 defensive snaps.

Adams plays a similar role to second-round rookie Keeanu Benton, who’s thrived in Adams’ absence and profiles as a long-term piece of the Steelers’ defensive line. Unless Cameron Heyward retires, Adams might not have a starting spot in Pittsburgh in 2024, but he could still make sense as inexpensive depth.
