Arsenal Transfer Rumors: Insider Claims Gunners Are Eyeing Up Move For $8 Million Bundesliga Star

Arsenal is concerned about its backup goalkeeper position and is looking to the Bundesliga for a possible reinforcement for the next transfer window.

Arsenal is targeting a goalkeeper in the January transfer window, with the aim of securing an immediate backup for starter David Raya in case of injury.

Who Could Be Arsenal’s Future Goalkeeper?

According to the latest reports from Metro, the Gunners’ board is beginning to outline its plans for the future and is showing interest in Diant Ramaj, a 24-year-old goalkeeper who is making a huge positive impact in the current Bundesliga season for Heidenheim, with an estimated value of €7 million.

Ramaj is currently on loan at Heidenheim from Borussia Dortmund this season, where he has delivered sensational performances and made difficult saves, sparking strong interest from rival clubs in a potential signing after his loan spell.

Arsenal recently sent scouts to watch Ramaj throughout the actual season at Heidenheim, and the current Premier League leaders are said to be particularly impressed with the German’s ball distribution, essential to Mikel Arteta’s style of play.

Ramaj is a modern goalkeeper who combines the characteristics of a sweeper-keeper and a distributor. Trained at Heidenheim’s youth academy, with spells at Ajax and on loan at Copenhagen before joining the Bundesliga, he is regarded as a talented player with strong technical ability and the potential to become a key player at larger clubs.

Despite conceding 30 goals in 14 games, the goalkeeper attracts interest for his footwork and long-pass accuracy, which enable quick transitions and suit teams that play from the back and expect the goalkeeper to be the “first builder.”

Heidenheim’s defensive fragility exposes the goalkeeper to many goals. Despite a low save percentage and no clean sheets, his name should gain more traction in the transfer market in the coming weeks.

David Raya Continues His Great Run with the Gunners

Raya has established himself as Arteta’s first-choice goalkeeper since his permanent signing in July 2024. Despite initial surprise due to Ramsdale’s prominence, Raya has overcome skepticism and is now considered highly reliable in the Premier League.

Kepa Arrizabalaga joined Arsenal as backup via a £5 million release clause from Chelsea. Although he has made just two EFL Cup appearances, he remains content with his role.

Arsenal leads the Premier League with 39 points, achieved after a 1-0 victory over Everton. However, the Gunners are facing direct competition from Manchester City, currently second in the table with 37 points. On Tuesday, the Gunners will face Crystal Palace in the quarterfinals of the EFL Cup.
