Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders was at the helm of the team’s 9-4 record this past campaign. This is especially notable considering the Boulder-based program was sitting on a one-win season before Sanders and Coach Prime joined in 2023.
Now that the QB is preparing to sail away to the league through the 2025 NFL Draft, Liberty Flames transfer Kaidon Salter is ready to step into his predecessor’s shoes.

Shedeur Sanders in Practice With Kaidon Salter
Following the Super Bowl festivities, which saw the Philadelphia Eagles win only their second-ever Lombardi Trophy after defeating the Kansas City Chiefs, Sanders revisited his program’s practice facility, where he met up with incoming athletes, including Salter.
The two were captured practicing together, and Sanders demonstrated that he knows a thing or two about throwing.

While there have been some concerns about his arm strength, Sanders makes up for it with his quick release and accurate passes on good timing. Pro Football Network’s latest 7-round mock draft by Ben Rolfe projects him to be selected No. 2 overall player to the Cleveland Browns.
Meanwhile, Salter knows the expectations he has to take on at Colorado and is well prepared for them, as evidenced by the practice session as well as his 2023 campaign where he led in passing yards and yards per completion in Conference USA.
In a “Well Off Media” YouTube video that was uploaded on Feb. 4, with the title “Shedeur Did His Thing Now It’s MY TURN,” Salter said:
“Shedeur did his thing here, but it’s time for me to come in and do what I got to do. … It’s time to start my own legacy here for my last year.
“The culture that Deion has brought here, from when Colorado was 1-11 to what we were last year at 9-4 and making a bowl game appearance, everything that they did, it stood on business.”
Salter is facing competition from freshman Julian “Ju Ju” Lewis, who Coach Prime, prior to Salter’s transfer, said would be Sanders’ successor. In an interview with “WFAA” in January, Salter said:
“No promises, all competition, and I’m willing to come in and compete. Ju Ju, he’s a younger guy of course, so they wanted somebody in the room that can mentor him and help him come into college and feel comfortable.
“They felt that I was that guy that can do that. (He’s) one of the best quarterbacks in his class. It’s all love over there, and it’ll be a great competition between us.”
The senior threw for 5,889 yards and 56 scores in his four years at Liberty and also recorded 2,006 rushing yards.
