‘I’m on a Strict Program’ – Shedeur Sanders Finally Breaks Silence on Decision To Opt Out of NFL Combine Workouts

Shedeur Sanders finally opens up on why he is not participating in the 2025 NFL Combine.

Shedeur Sanders won’t be participating in the 2025 NFL Combine drills to be held at the Lucas Oil Stadium from February 27 to March 2. He has his own reasons. The announcement spread like wildfire on social media, with fans and experts criticizing his move.

Instead of participating in the workouts, Sanders vowed to be engaged in team meetings and interviews with the top brass of several franchises. This week he finally broke silence on why he contemplated forgoing the drills, which usually serve as an opportunity for players to showcase their skill sets.

Shedeur Sanders Gets Real About His NFL Combine Plans

Over the last couple of years, it has become a trait among top prospects to skip the workouts. Their game tapes from college happen to serve the purpose where scouts can watch those to evaluate the players.

When it comes to Sanders, he has a terrific college career with almost 30+ tapes available to verify his arm strength and throwing skills. On Tuesday this week, Sanders mentioned that his decision comes from the fact that he would be interacting with a lot of NFL teams and it wouldn’t be feasible to workout simultaneously.

If Scouts want to watch him play, they can have the opportunity at Colorado’s Pro Day, which is due in March this year.

“There was a lot to go into that decision and not throwing, like, I’m on a strict program, and I wanted to focus more on, uh, interviews and getting to meet these coaches and GMs and everybody, um, and them having any questions for me being there,” Sanders said on his podcast with Darius Sanders.

“So it was just, it was just, like, a focus thing, like, I want, I want them to be able to focus on, you know, just having conversation, being able to talk, being able to see a week, see out loud, if they, you know, even like me overall, as a person first, regardless of what they see online or anything, man, the next step is okay, they’ll be able to see me throw, and I’ll be on the 30 visit.

“Then they’ll be able to see me throw Pro Day. Then they’ll have a private workout also. So it’s just no point of just rushing the process, like we have a game plan going into this off season and what we want to get better at and what we want to do, so we just got to follow that,” he added.
