LSU Tigers’ fans enter the 2025 season with high expectations. Much of that optimism centers on the return of star wide receiver Aaron Anderson, who was reportedly making great strides in his recovery from a knee injury. But weekend practice tells a different story. Anderson’s progress now seems uncertain, leaving fans concerned.
Aaron Anderson Injury Update Takes a Hit after Weekend Practice
LSU HC Brian Kelly recently told reporters that WR Anderson had a knee infusion to treat inflammation from an old injury dating back to his freshman year at Alabama. Kelly said he doesn’t expect Anderson to miss any games this season.
Also, on a recent episode of Locked on LSU, host Matt Moscona shared that offensive coordinator Joe Sloan had told him Anderson was doing great and had returned to the training field on Friday.
Many expected to see Anderson at his best during Saturday’s practice. But while he was present, he didn’t participate in team drills, raising fresh questions about his readiness.
“As Joe Sloan told me after we met with him on Friday, I kind of talked with him aside. He said Aaron Anderson was back on the practice field on Friday. Aaron Anderson was in full pads on Saturday but did not participate in the team periods,” Moscona said.
“And maybe there’s some reason to believe that is a little concerning, because he was there on the first day of camp and hasn’t been back out since.”
Anderson battled MCL issues at Alabama in 2022 and underwent surgery after that season. The New Orleans native then transferred to LSU and sat out his first spring in Baton Rouge while recovering from the procedure.
In 2023, Anderson saw limited action, but he broke out last season as a sophomore. The 5’8”, 188-pound receiver posted career highs with 61 catches for 884 yards and five touchdowns.

He averaged 14.5 yards per reception and hauled in a career-long 76-yard pass against Texas A&M. Anderson finished the year as LSU’s leading receiver, an incredible achievement, especially now with four of the team’s top five pass-catchers gone.
Now entering his fourth year of college football and third season at LSU, the redshirt junior faces added competition from transfer portal additions. Still, he’s expected to lock down the starting slot receiver role. Anderson is also one of 47 wideouts named to the 2025 Biletnikoff Award watch list, the only LSU player to make the cut.
He’s expected to be fully fit for LSU’s season opener against Clemson on August 30 in South Carolina. The matchup is one of the year’s most anticipated games, with both teams eyeing a national championship run. It will be the first regular-season meeting between the two programs; LSU holds a 3–1 edge in their four postseason clashes.
