The NFL sees a lot of coaching turnover year after year. After all, the league is a results-based industry. However, there are still a handful of coaches who have been around for a while. Included in that group is Sean McDermott of the Buffalo Bills, who has been coaching in Western New York since 2017.

Heading into Year 8, what is McDermott’s salary and net worth?

According to Celebrity Net Worth, McDermott has a net worth of $20 million. His salary, on the other hand, sits at $8 million per year.

Ahead of 2023, a season that marked his fourth consecutive AFC East division title and fifth straight season with a playoff appearance, McDermott was signed to an extension alongside general manager Brandon Beane. The deal keeps them tied to Buffalo through 2027.

“Sean is a proud, Christian, determined man,” said Bills owner Terry Pegula. “I remember before his interview for the Bills head coaching job thinking about him being a two-time National Prep Wrestling Champ.

“I thought to myself, you wrestled, you’re determined, you love what you’re doing, and you won. He comes to the Bills every day and will never ask anyone, player or coach, to do anything he wouldn’t do.”

    A Look Into McDermott’s Tenure

McDermott started his coaching career back in 1998 as a graduate assistant for William & Mary. That would be his last stint outside of the NFL, as he joined the Philadelphia Eagles in 2001 as an assistant to the head coach.

He stayed with Philadelphia until 2010, working his way up to defensive assistant & quality control coach, assistant defensive backs coach, defensive backs coach, linebackers coach, and ultimately defensive coordinator.

After that season, he left the Eagles to join the Carolina Panthers as defensive coordinator from 2011-2016. The Bills then proceeded to hire McDermott ahead of the 2017 campaign, where he’s been ever since.

His head coaching record with Buffalo is 74-41 in the regular season (entering Week 2), and 5-6 in the postseason. Those numbers are good for the best win percentage in team history and third-most wins for any Bills coach.
