Seahawks vs. Chiefs Prediction
The Seahawks seemed destined to be in the postseason just a few short weeks ago. Their offense was firing on all cylinders, the defense had been playing well enough to keep things close, and they were winning games.
Unfortunately, Seattle has now lost three out of their last four games and currently sit outside of the NFC Playoffs looking in. At 7-7 now, they’re behind both the New York Giants and Washington Commanders for the remaining two NFC Wildcard spots.
They’ll need to string together some wins over the final remaining three weeks to push their way in, but that won’t be an easy task here in Week 16 up against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Seattle is big underdogs in this matchup against one of the hottest teams in the league, and they just lost one of their best playmakers on offense this past week in Tyler Lockett. The veteran WR is projected to be sidelined for the next couple of weeks with a hand injury, which will make overcoming this difficult matchup even more troublesome.
The key to winning this matchup over the Chiefs rests on the offense. Kansas City has been susceptible recently on defense and could allow Geno Smith and the Seahawks’ passing attack to remain in this game. They’ve allowed the 12th most passing yards per game and the most passing touchdowns this season.
If other playmakers in the Seahawks’ offense can find a way to step up in Lockett’s absence against a shaky defense, Seattle could keep this game close and potentially keep their playoff hopes alive.

As for the Chiefs, it wasn’t all sunshine and roses last week, but they found a way to get the job done against the Houston Texans and advance to 11-3 on the season. The Texans have proven to be a tough opponent the past two weeks, though, and they took the vaunted Chiefs team to overtime in Week 15.
There are certainly worrisome issues on the defense that will need correcting if Kansas City hopes to advance deep into the playoffs this year, but it’s important to point out what Patrick Mahomes is doing on offense.
Last week, Mahomes completed 87.8% of his passes against the Texans with a total of 41 pass attempts. Additionally, the star QB is currently on pace to finish just shy of Peyton Manning’s all-time single-season yardage record, and it’s not really being talked about enough.
This Chiefs team lost one of the most explosive playmakers in the entire NFL this past offseason and replaced him with a committee of other wideouts, and Mahomes hasn’t skipped a beat. He’s been asked to carry this team in 2022, and he’s delivered.
The key for Kansas City winning this matchup is simple — trust Mahomes. As long as he can continue to deliver elite performances week in and week out, they’ll consistently put up victory after victory.
