New York Jets All-Pro cornerback Sauce Gardner suffered an injury in the second quarter against the Houston Texans on “Thursday Night Football” in Week 9. Gardner appeared to hurt his foot while defending Texans wide receiver John Metchie III.
Here is the latest on Gardner’s injury.
What Happened to Sauce Gardner?
Gardner appeared to suffer a foot injury while defending Metchie in the second quarter at MetLife Stadium. The star cornerback got tangled up with Metchie and banged his foot on the ground.
Gardner remained on the ground following the play and was helped off the field by New York’s training staff. He walked gingerly but under his own power.

After spending several plays on the sideline, Gardner returned to action on the same drive in the second quarter. He stayed in for the rest of the game and moved well.
Late in the fourth quarter, Gardner appeared to reaggravate his injury as the Texans marched down the field toward the red zone. Gardner walked slowly off the field under his own power and New York’s defense never took the field again.
The Jets, who earned a 21-13 win, didn’t provide an update on Gardner after the game. But Gardner met with reporters and appeared to be in good spirits, likely indicating he wasn’t dealing with anything serious.
"Proud of him. First home win for him… that's great for him. We always do it for him."
