49ers To Host NFC Title Game and Super Bowl Rematch

Expect thousands of tickets to be sold immediately once the league officially announces the dates of the NFC Championship and Super Bowl rematch — as both games head to Levi’s Stadium.

It’s rare in the NFL that a team can host both conference title and SB rematches in the same season. Granted, the Chiefs hosted the AFC title game rematch against the Cincinnati Bengals and hosted their Super Bowl 57 opponent the Philadelphia Eagles at Arrowhead Stadium this past season. Now, the 49ers get to lure in the Lions and Chiefs into their home.

Those aren’t the only intriguing home contests, though. The Cowboys will once again look to end their current slide versus the 49ers — including avenging that astonishing 42-10 rout in Santa Clara, Calif., at the hands of the Niners.

Also, the 49ers will welcome back an old rival of theirs: Aaron Rodgers. Only this time, Rodgers will be wearing the New York Jets colors in his return to Levi’s.

49ers Hit Florida and Cold Weather Cities on the Road

As for the road slate, the 49ers will be getting their expected share of warm and frigid climates.

For the latter, the Niners will trek to Lambeau Field for the NFC Divisional Round rematch against the Packers. If the game gets scheduled for November/December, expect below-freezing temperatures. The same could be the case for the Bills contest if that becomes a late-season battle, as that game will be set for western New York.

On the other side of the weather spectrum, the 49ers will get the warm humidity of Florida twice. They’ll head to Hard Rock Stadium to see old friend Mike McDaniel and former NFC West rival Jalen Ramsey, facing off with the Dolphins. There’s a second Sunshine State trip on deck too: the 49ers heading to Raymond James Stadium to take on the NFC South-champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Furthermore, the 49ers have a return trip to U.S. Bank Stadium to face the Vikings, who stunned the NFC champs 22-17 in Oct. 2023.

Will the 2024 Schedule Be Tougher for San Francisco?

On their road back to the top of the NFC, the 49ers had to go through teams like Dallas, Philadelphia, the Baltimore Ravens, and a Vikings team that was off a postseason berth.

They went 2-2 overall in those contests — but their most lopsided wins were versus the Cowboys and Eagles.

This time around, the 49ers have four newcomers to the ’24 schedule in the form of four playoff representatives from this past season. And yes, that includes the Chiefs and Lions. For K.C., it’s the second time in the last three seasons that Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Company will head to the Bay Area. Their 2022 meeting saw a young rookie quarterback named Brock Purdy see some first-time NFL action that afternoon.

Also back from that ’22 schedule is the Dolphins — who were trounced by the 49ers in their December meeting at Levi’s. Meanwhile, the Lions will make their first trip to the Bay since 2018, which was a 30-27 win by the Niners.

The 49ers are among four teams tied for having the league’s 12th-strongest schedule ahead of ’24.
