Here are the picks that the San Francisco 49ers possess in the 2025 NFL Draft.
As the NFC starts to strengthen again, no pick is wasted for the 49ers, who have multiple failed Super Bowl appearances to atone for now under Kyle Shanahan.

How Many Picks Do the 49ers Have in the 2025 NFL Draft?
Currently, the 49ers have eight picks in the 2025 NFL Draft. To this point, they’ve retained their original selections in every round except for Round 7. They also have an additional Round 3 pick on the way.
The 49ers’ extra third-round pick was a reward given to them through the NFL’s minority hire policy. Because the 49ers developed Texans head coach hire DeMeco Ryans, they were given a third-round compensatory pick in both the 2024 NFL Draft and the 2025 NFL Draft.
In Round 7, the 49ers have one pick left over from a seventh-round pick swap that involved kicker Zane Gonzalez — though it’s not clear at the moment to whom the seventh-round pick originally belonged.
What Are the 49ers’ Biggest Needs in 2025?
The 49ers are always a unique team to project needs for. Shanahan has proven that, with his coaching staff, he can not only develop players, but also scheme them toward success. Still, there are some positions that may demand re-investment more than others.
Quarterback is at least worth mentioning, seeing that Brock Purdy’s rookie contract will expire after the 2025 season.

However, Purdy is well on his way to a massive extension after a spectacular 2023 campaign. It’s clear he fits Shanahan’s system well — more than most who occupied Shanahan’s QB carousel previously.
Assuming Purdy will be taken care of by Shanahan and general manager John Lynch, the focus turns to non-QBs.
On offense, wide receiver is in a precarious spot with trade rumors flaring for Brandon Aiyuk. Deebo Samuel remains, and first-round pick Ricky Pearsall will help hedge for any moves, but thus far, Pearsall hasn’t been fully healthy in camp.
Elsewhere on offense, guard could soon be a need again, as both Aaron Banks and Jon Feliciano are set to be free agents in 2025. Rookie Dominick Puni should be able to fill one of those spots, but it’s unclear if the second solution is on the roster yet.
Offensive tackle is also worth watching, with Trent Williams aging and Colton McKivitz not upgrade-proof.
On defense, more defensive line depth and rotational utility — both on the edge and at defensive tackle — could be sought. Strong-side linebacker is a long-term question mark given Dre Greenlaw’s health. And at cornerback, both Charvarius Ward and Ambry Thomas are set to be free agents, once again making CB a looming need.
