‘Late and Dirty Hit’ — Former Ravens QB Calls Out Kansas Player for Sacking NFL-Bound Shedeur Sanders Amid Week 13 Clash

    Published on

Robert Griffin III questions why Kansas defensive end Dean Miller wasn't flagged for his supposed late sack on Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders.

Week 14 is approaching, and after suffering a 37-21 upset against the Kansas Jayhawks (5-6) in Week 13 on Saturday, the Colorado Buffaloes fell to 8-3 in the overall standings and are in a four-way tie at 6-1 in conference play.

Kansas easily defeated Colorado at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, rushing for 331 yards without any turnovers or punts. In comparison, Colorado managed only 42 yards on the ground without ever leading.

While the Jayhawks have been on a roll having defeated three ranked teams in a row, many are questioning why defensive end Dean Miller was not penalized for his supposed late hit on Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders’ knees in the second quarter.

Former Ravens QB Tweet About the Late Sack on Shedeur Sanders

The hit went viral online, with many wondering why a penalty was not called. While some argued that the hit was not late and made contact with the thighs instead of the knees, the general consensus was that the play was not clean, including from former Baltimore Ravens quarterback Robert Griffin III, who posted on X (formerly known as Twitter):

“At any level of football this is a late and dirty hit on Shedeur Sanders. No place in the game for this.”

Colorado was penalized eight times, which cost them 65 yards when compared to Kansas’ 35 yards on five flags.

Post-game, the NFL-bound Sanders was holding onto a similar sentiment, as he told reporters:

“I just don’t understand how that is legal … couple plays like that.”

Right before the hit, Colorado was down 17-0. Colorado’s offensive line was struggling to protect its quarterback in the first half. However, Sanders shook it off with two quick touchdowns before halftime. The first was a 51-yard touchdown pass to Travis Hunter, and then a 19-yard TD pass to Drelon Miller. He finished 23-of-29 for 266 yards and three touchdowns.

However, the frustration from the hit grew for the QB; in the third quarter, a tackle led to a skirmish between both teams, and Sanders apparently pushed a referee with his forearm.

The Buffs will play their last regular season game at home against Oklahoma State in Week 14 on Friday, Nov. 29, 2024. Their Big 12 Championship Game path is now uncertain, and they rely on not just their next win but on hopes that BYU and Arizona State will lose as well.
