‘Butter Fingers’ – Quentin Johnston Gets Flamed by NFL Fans After Costly Drops in Loss to Ravens

    Published on

Los Angeles Chargers wideout Quentin Johnston was heavily criticized by fans on social media after multiple drops in loss to the Baltimore Ravens.

The Los Angeles Chargers drafted Quentin Johnston with the 21st overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. He had a disappointing rookie season but has played much better with Jim Harbaugh as his head coach.

Unfortunately, Johnston had a poor game against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 12. He had multiple drops, and had they been caught, the Chargers could have avoided a 30-23 loss to the Ravens.

Fans Call Out Quentin Johnston for Poor Performance on MNF

Fans on social media went off on Johnston and called him out for how he played on Monday Night Football. The 23-year-old wideout finished the game with no receptions on five targets and had multiple drops, two of which should have been easily caught.

Here’s how the fans reacted to Johnston’s performance against the Ravens:

“I really don’t know what people see in dude… Get him OFF the team!!! He’s a liability!!!” said one fan.

Another fan added, “Dude is terrible, he may be better off playing on the other side of the ball with his hands. It’s not a new issue for him.”

“Rodgers would have him traded by tomorrow,” wrote one fan.

Even Fantasy Footballers host Jason Moore joined in on the Johnston discourse. “I don’t want other people to dunk on Quentin Johnston for dropping passes tonight. It isn’t fair. Leave all the dunking to me. Quge couldn’t catch tuberculosis in the 1900s,” he tweeted.

“I’ve been really supportive to this dude, but I’m tired of it man. This is professional sports. You can’t drop this shit. This goes for a huge gain. This gets us to tie the game 23-23 very likely. Now we’re neck and neck with the Broncos and I get to hear more about Herbert not being elite. Such a joke,” added another.

Johnston has 22 catches for 354 yards and six touchdowns on 42 targets in nine games this season. He is averaging 16.1 yards per reception. Although this game was quite the setback, Johnston has been making strides and is hands down better than he was in his rookie year.

The Chargers selected Johnston out of TCU ahead of the likes of Zay Flowers, Jordan Addison, Jaydeen Reed, Rashee Rice, and Puka Nacua. He has shown signs of improvement but still hasn’t played like a first-round receiver should play. Hopefully, he will bounce back from this performance and have a much better game against the Atlanta Falcons next week.

Mina Kimes Urges Chargers To Sign Tee Higgins in Free Agency

Per Spotrac, the Chargers are projected to have $75.1 million in cap space next year. The team definitely needs an upgrade at the WR position, and ESPN’s Mina Kimes believes they should go all out for Tee Higgins.

After this season, the Cincinnati Bengals wideout will be an unrestricted free agent and will be an ideal fit alongside Ladd McConkey on the Chargers. The Clemson product will be 26 years old by the time the next season starts and could be their true WR1.

The departures of Mike Williams and Keenan Allen haven’t been felt much by the Chargers, but they still need to get an elite wide receiver for their superstar quarterback. Harbaugh has already built an excellent running game for the team, and adding a receiver of Higgins’ caliber for Justin Herbert would make the team a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

Higgins has played six games this season 38 receptions for 489 yards and four touchdowns. He has had success in Cincinnati, but we’ll see his real potential once he’s not on the same team as Ja’Marr Chase. Higgins’ addition will also help McConkey’s development, as he has shown a lot of promise in his rookie season. Moreover, it will also help Johnston, who many still believe has the potential to succeed in the NFL.
