FOXBORO, Mass. — The New England Patriots on Wednesday held their second practice ahead of Sunday’s road game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Let’s get into everything we saw during the media portion of practice, which lasted roughly 10 minutes.

Patriots Practice Attendance for Wednesday, Sept. 4

Just two players were absent from Wednesday’s practice: guard Sidy Sow and practice squad defensive end Jotham Russell.

Sow is recovering from an ankle injury suffered during the Patriots’ preseason finale against the Washington Commanders. Russell’s injury situation, however, remains unclear.

Offense tackle Vederian Lowe was back in pads as he continues recovering from a minor oblique injury. He participated more than in Monday’s session but still appeared limited.

Whether Lowe will be ready for the season opener remains to be seen. Still, his uptick in participation indicates he could be ready for game action soon.

We’ll learn more about the injury statuses of Sow and Lowe when the Patriots release their first injury report on Wednesday afternoon.

Assorted Notes from Wednesday’s Patriots Practice

    • Mike Onwenu continued to work at right tackle, although it’s important to note the Patriots didn’t run any team drills during the media-access portion of practice. Nevertheless, here’s an educated guess at Sunday’s O-line should Lowe and Sow be inactive:

    Left tackle: Chukwuma Okorafor
    Left guard: Nick Leverett
    Center: David Andrews
    Right guard: Layden Robinson
    Right tackle: Mike Onwenu

    • Recently claimed tackle Zach Thomas worked on the interior line. Wednesday’s practice also saw the debut of 6-foot-9 practice squad tackle Caleb Jones, who is, in fact, a very large human.

    • Safety Jabrill Peppers wore a guardian cap adorning a Patriots logo. The NFL now allows players to wear guardian caps during regular-season games; it’s unclear whether Peppers plans to do so.

    • Defensive tackle Christian Barmore was hanging out in the Patriots locker room shortly before practice. The star DT hasn’t been around much since his blood clot diagnosis, which will sideline him for at least the first four games of the season.
    • Here are additional highlights from Wednesday’s practice and locker room availability. The Patriots will be back on the field Thursday and Friday before traveling to Cincinnati on Saturday.
