Patrick Mahomes Congratulated Jalen Hurts for the Super Bowl Win

Moments after a crushing 40-22 loss in Super Bowl 59, the Chiefs’ superstar found Hurts on the field to congratulate him on the big win. On spotting the quarterback, Mahomes gave him a friendly hug, shook his hand, and delivered a short but classy message, saying:

    “Congratulations… Go enjoy it.”

The exchange was captured in a video posted by Bleacher Report on Instagram, showing Mahomes handling defeat with grace as Hurts soaked in the biggest moment of his career. It was a painful but familiar scene for the 29-year-old quarterback — watching another quarterback lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy while he stood on the losing side.

The loss stung more than most for Mahomes and the Chiefs, who were hoping to rewrite history. Entering the game as two-time defending champions, they had a chance to have their name etched as the first team to win three straight Super Bowls. Instead, they ran into an Eagles squad that came out firing from the opening snap.

Hurts, who was named Super Bowl MVP, put on a masterclass. He completed 17-of-22 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for a record-setting 72 yards as a quarterback. His poise and precision left little room for Kansas City to mount a comeback, especially with the Eagles’ defense shutting down Mahomes for most of the night.

The Chiefs, held scoreless in the first half, struggled to find any rhythm until it was too late. Mahomes finished with 257 passing yards and three touchdowns but was plagued by two interceptions and a costly fumble. The Eagles’ defense forced three total turnovers, including a crucial pick-six in the second quarter that widened the gap.

While the on-field handshake with Hurts was a moment of sportsmanship, Mahomes later took to social media to address Chiefs fans. In a heartfelt message on X, he expressed his gratitude for the support while also taking responsibility for the loss.

“Appreciate all the love and support from #ChiefsKingdom. I let y’all down today. I’ll always continue to work and try and learn and be better for it. Want to give thanks to God for every opportunity he has given me. We will be back.”

It was a tough ending to what could have been a historic season, but Mahomes’ mindset appeared to be one of a winner — learn from the loss and come back stronger. He already has three Super Bowl rings, and this suggests that his competitive fire isn’t going anywhere.
