Pat McAfee Teases More Big Swings From Chiefs Following DeAndre Hopkins Trade

Pat McAfee hints at the Kansas City Chiefs making more moves ahead of the trade deadline after acquiring DeAndre Hopkins from the Titans.

The Tennessee Titans traded DeAndre Hopkins to the Kansas City Chiefs. The 32-year-old wideout came close to signing with the Chiefs as a free agent last season, but the move fell through as Tennessee was able to offer him more money.

The Titans have started the season 1-5 and have questions about their quarterback, Will Levis. The Chiefs recently lost JuJu Smith-Schuster to a hamstring injury and were forced to make a move for a wide receiver, as they are already without Rashee Rice and Hollywood Brown.

DeAndre Hopkins Trade Details

The Chiefs traded away a 2025 fifth-round pick to the Titans to acquire Hopkins. This pick will turn into a fourth-round pick if the star wide receiver plays 60% of the snaps in the regular season or the Chiefs make the Super Bowl.

The Titans will also pay nearly half of Hopkins’ salary this year. In 2023, Hopkins signed a two-year, $26 million contract with the Titans, and he will be a free agent after this season.

This is a smart move for the Chiefs, as they have added a veteran player who can make an instant impact. Kansas City was also linked with a move for Cooper Kupp, but unfortunately, due to his salary and the Rams’ asking price, the move did not make sense for the reigning Super Bowl champions.

Hopkins has 15 receptions for 173 yards and a touchdown in six games this season. Last year, he played all 17 games and finished with 75 receptions for 1,057 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 14.1 yards per reception.

Pat McAfee Hints at Chiefs Being Active in Trade Market

Patrick Mahomes has not played well this year, largely due to the injuries the Chiefs have on their offense. Things are expected to improve for the Chiefs following Hopkins’ addition.

In a recent segment on the Pat McAfee Show, the former Indianapolis Colts punter said that, according to his sources, the Chiefs are not done making moves and still have time to trade for more players.

“Source says, tell me, maybe [Chiefs GM Brett Veach] isn’t done,” said McAfee. “That’s what sources told me this morning after a congratulatory tweet was sent out, text was sent out.”

The NFL’s trade deadline is at 4:00 p.m. ET on November 5, and many players are expected to get traded in the coming days.

Chiefs starting cornerback Jaylen Watson is out for the season after he suffered an ankle injury in Week 7, and the team could be looking to bolster their secondary as well. Kansas City has one of the best defenses in the NFL, allowing only 17.2 points and 90.5 rushing yards per game.

They still have a lot of depth at the cornerback position, but if a good player is available on the market, Veach will not waste the opportunity to get him. The Chiefs are on a quest to become the first-ever team in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowls, and their general manager will maximize the opportunity.

The Chiefs will play the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 8, and Hopkins is expected to make his debut for the team.
