Green Bay Packers vs. Cincinnati Bengals Best Bets

Blewis: This is a matchup of two teams that each went 1-2 in the preseason last year, but the Green Bay Packers especially haven’t had much “success” in the preseason under Matt LaFleur. Since he became their head coach, the Packers are just 3-7 ATS in the preseason.

But that’s not why I’m picking the Bengals. Even though he was highly unlikely to play anyway, Joe Burrow will be sidelined for this one, and one storyline for Cincinnati this preseason is the competition for the backup quarterback spot between Trevor Siemian and Jake Browning.

My assumption here is that the Bengals will want to get an extensive look at both quarterbacks, giving them near-equal snaps, like they have in practice with the first team, and letting them rip.

    Give me the Bengals +4.5.

Green Bay Packers Roster and Injury Report

First-year starting QB Jordan Love has confirmed he will play tonight in the team’s first preseason game. How many snaps he will get, however, remains to be seen. Nevertheless, the Jordan Love era in Green Bay officially begins tonight.

This will also be the debut of the Packers’ first-round pick, edge rusher Lukas Van Ness out of Iowa. Van Ness was the 13th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft and is currently listed as a second-team outside linebacker.

Standout edge rusher Rashan Gary was activated off the PUP list earlier this week, making his first return to the practice field since tearing his ACL in Week 9 of last season.

Cincinnati Bengals Roster and Injury Report

After suffering a calf injury in the beginning of training camp, QB Joe Burrow is expected to be sidelined for a few weeks. That means that this will be the Siemian and Browning show tonight at quarterback for the Bengals.

Like Green Bay, Cincinnati also has a first-round pick edge rusher making their NFL debut tonight, with Myles Murphy out of Clemson. Meanwhile, rookie RB Chase Brown is expected to see a ton of action tonight for Cincinnati to fight for the primary spot in the backfield behind Joe Mixon.
