During Week 2 of the 2023 NFL season, Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb suffered season-ending tears of his ACL and meniscus. After undergoing two surgeries and missing the first six weeks of the 2024 season, Chubb is back on the field. Let’s examine the All-Pro RB’s contract, 2024 salary, and net worth.
Nick Chubb’s Contract and Salary
In July 2021, Chubb inked a three-year, $36.6 million extension with the Browns that included a $12 million signing bonus and $20 million guaranteed.
However, Chubb and the Browns agreed to restructure his contract last offseason.
Initially, Chubb was set to have a base salary of $11.7 million, a $4 million signing bonus, and per-game roster bonuses worth up to $425,000, meaning his cap hit would have been $16.2 million.
However, after the restructure, Chubb’s base salary was lowered to $1.1 million, his signing bonus was increased to $4.9 million, and his per-game roster bonuses were now worth up to $225,000, so his cap hit was just $6.27 million (plus a dead cap hit of $6.05 million).
In other words, Chubb’s decision to restructure his deal saved the Browns nearly $10 million. The total value of Chubb’s new deal is $2.27 million.
If Chubb hadn’t restructured his deal, he would’ve been the fifth-highest-paid running back in the league based on average annual value ($12.2 million).
For comparison, the NFL’s highest-paid running backs are San Francisco 49ers star Christian McCaffrey ($19 million per year), Indianapolis Colts star Jonathan Taylor ($14 million), and Philadelphia Eagles star Saquon Barkley ($12.6 million).
Instead, Chubb’s $2.27 million salary ranks 30th among running backs this season. Arizona Cardinals RB DeeJay Dallas ($2.75 million), Green Bay Packers RB AJ Dillon ($2.74 million), New Orleans Saints RB Jamaal Williams ($4 million), and Carolina Panthers RB Miles Sanders ($6.35 million) are among the backs who are earning more than Chubb.
Chubb will be an unrestricted free agent after this season.
Chubb’s Net Worth and Career Earnings
Chubb’s net worth is estimated to be $22 million.
Throughout the course of his seven-year NFL career, he has earned $36,384,558 from his NFL contracts alone. That figure doesn’t include the money has made off the field.
As a four-time Pro Bowler and All-Pro selection, Chubb has had a number of endorsement deals.
Over the years, he has partnered with companies including Nike, Dodge, Snickers, Defiance Fuel, Panini, Chubb Limited, Xenith, and FedEx.
Chubb has struggled since returning from his gruesome injury, but he’s still shaking the rust off, and the hope is that he can return to form.
Regardless of whether that happens, the good news is he has done well for himself financially.
