The offseason is nearly finished, but the Toronto Maple Leafs are still struggling to re-sign their starting goalie, Anthony Stolarz, before training camp starts next week. Stolarz proved to be one of Toronto’s best players last season.
However, with Stolarz entering the last year of his current deal, the Maple Leafs would like to lock up the goalie before he becomes a free agent next year. But while negotiations are still ongoing, the goalie has revealed what he is expecting from the contract.
What Did Anthony Stolarz Say About Reveals His Contract Expectations?
While the Maple Leafs once again crashed out in round two of the playoffs, Stolarz had a sensational season with the franchise. In 34 regular-season games, the goalie posted a league-best save percentage of 0.926 with a GAA of 2.14.
But with his two-year, $5 million deal coming to an end next year, GM Brad Treliving has been trying to get Stolarz to sign a contract extension since the summer. While rumors suggest that the goalie is also willing to re-sign with the Maple Leafs, no progress has yet been made in their talks.
However, on a recent taping for the Leafs Morning Take, Stolarz revealed what he expects heading into the contract talks. He mentioned to hosts Nick Alberga and former Oilers forward Jay Rosehill that all he expects is a fair deal.
When Alberga mentioned what he was expecting from the upcoming deal, Stolarz mentioned, “I mean, I think it’s just kind of, you know, just getting paid fairly. You know something that you know helps the team.”

Stolarz believes that the Maple Leafs trust him and believe in his abilities. “But at the same time, you know, it shows that they believe in me, so like I said, I’ll leave that to the agent and Treliving. And for me, it’s just more or less just kind of going out there and continuing to do what I do,” he said.
Meanwhile, Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving has already made it clear that he has no intention of letting Anthony Stolarz test free agency. The GM views the goaltender as the team’s most notable pending UFA, and multiple insiders believe a contract extension could be finalized sooner rather than later.
In his interview with Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic, Treliving mentioned, “Anthony has come in and has been terrific. Really, he and [Joseph Woll], you look at any metric you want, I think they were as good a goaltending tandem as there was in the league and really were a backbone for us.”
Most experts believe that Stolarz’s new contract will be in the range of $5 million per year for a four-year deal. While the exact numbers will be hard to know just now, the Maple Leafs are expected to try their best to keep the goalie in Toronto.
