NFL Team Needs: What do the New York Giants need in the 2022 NFL Draft?

The New York Giants have several team needs entering the 2022 NFL Draft, including EDGE, safety, and offensive tackle.

The New York Giants entered the Joe Schoen/Brian Daboll era with little cap room and a lot of holes on their roster. As they enter the 2022 NFL Draft, armed with two top-10 picks, they still have plenty of work to do. So what are the Giants’ team needs heading into the draft?

New York Giants team needs in the 2022 NFL Draft

The Dave Gettleman regime was a nightmare alley for the Giants. New York’s former GM left the house in a mess, comparable to finding out that the babysitter fell asleep on the couch and let your child wipe spaghetti all over the living room walls.

Now, Schoen — with help from Daboll — needs to clean up that mess. It won’t be easy, but neither is cleaning tomato sauce off the vinyl.

Below are the Giants’ biggest team needs entering the 2022 NFL Draft.

Pass Rusher

The Giants need to generate pressure on defense. Right now, their pieces — outside of Dexter Lawrence and Leonard Williams — aren’t all that appealing. While Jihad Ward’s arrival should help, the Giants badly need to upgrade their EDGE spots, as Azeez Ojulari needs a long-term hunting partner.

Linebacker

While the Giants and Blake Martinez were able to work out his contract so that he could stay in the Meadowlands, his future in blue is likely to be short-lived. Along with Martinez’s potential exit after this season, the team could afford to upgrade over 17-game starter Tae Crowder. That might seem like a luxury outlook, but the Giants need to get better on defense, and the linebacker position needs a lot of work.

Offensive Tackle

The Giants need a long-term starting right tackle to partner opposite Andrew Thomas. While the team brought in promising young tackle Matt Gono, they probably aren’t going to rest on staging a competition between him and Matt Peart, who wore out his welcome with the previous staff.

Center

The Giants brought in Jon Feliciano as a familiar-faced veteran to serve as a stopgap in the middle of their line. While Feliciano is likely to get the first bite as the starter in the Big Apple, the Giants should try to shore up the position for the long-term future.

Guard

The Giants have signed Mark Glowinski, Max Garcia, and Jamil Douglas to provide depth at guard this season. Glowinski is likely to start at right guard while Garcia and Douglas battle on the left side. It would behoove the Giants to upgrade that competition with a young stud in the draft.

Safety

After losing Jabrill Peppers and Logan Ryan over salary cap issues, the Giants’ secondary has a massive hole at safety. With both starting spots still open, the Giants will probably need to attack this team need at least once in the draft, if not twice. Luckily, this is a solid class for the position.
