NFL Pro Day News and Rumors: David Ojabo injured at Michigan Pro Day

I’m told Ojabo was participating in defensive line drills with Aidan Hutchinson and Chris Hinton. The coaches had Hutchinson and Ojabo peel off and do coverage drills. Ojabo dropped into space, planted his foot, caught the ball, and went down.

This is eerily comparable to the way Washington cornerback Sidney Jones tore his Achilles during the Washington Pro Day in 2017.

How’d Ojabo’s injury happen, and what’s the latest?

As one scout on hand said, “It did not look good.” Scouts I spoke with told me it wasn’t a situation where Ojabo was overworked, rather an unfortunate turf injury.

Earlier today, I was told it was an ankle/foot/Achilles injury. I’m told Ojabo is undergoing further examinations so a final diagnosis can be rendered. I’ve not heard back from Ojabo’s team despite attempting to contact them this morning.

Yet, someone in the inner circle told me it’s “serious and looks like an Achilles injury.” Hopefully, that changes along with the final diagnoses, as Ojabo has long reigned on the top 10 on my board.

Defenders shine at Michigan’s Pro Day

The aforementioned Hinton weighed in at 304 pounds, then timed 4.80 in the short shuttle and 7.80 in the three-cone. I’m told despite the slower than expected times, Hinton looked very smooth and fluid in drills.

Evidently, scouts switched up the three-cone drill at the last second, putting much larger cones in place of the smaller ones that players were accustomed to, and the switch hurt everyone.

Linebacker Josh Ross ran the 40 again and reportedly looked real good in drills. I am much higher on Ross than most in the scouting community, and despite poor testing at the Combine, he’s a terrific linebacker.

It should come as no surprise the Pittsburgh Steelers took him out to dinner after the event. Ross’ style of play parallels Myles Jack, who ironically just signed a two-year deal with Pittsburgh.
