NFL Player Incentives Week 18: Baker Mayfield, DeAndre Hopkins, and Jordan Love Have a Lot To Play for in Season Finale

What are the NFL player incentives that could be achieved in Week 18 as many have their final chance this season to boost their earnings?

Entering the final week of the season, the majority of eyes around the NFL will be on the playoff picture, but for some players, there are also financial incentives at stake. With just one more game to hit contractual bonuses, we may see teams feed their players the ball to hit a set number.

Let’s examine some of the more notable NFL player incentives that could be achieved in Week 18.

Please note that this is not an exhaustive list of incentives for Week 18. Additionally, some teams who rest players in the final weeks will later agree to a contract restructure to ensure the players get their money even if they do not hit their incentive.

Each game in a season is worth, on average, a 5.9% snap share. Therefore, a player that plays 100% of the snaps in any given week could see their snap share increase by around 5-6%

Top NFL Player Incentives for Week 18

Baker Mayfield, QB, Buccaneers

Heading into Week 18, Baker Mayfield has already earned $1 million through playing time incentives for crossing barriers at 55%, 66%, 75%, and 85% play time for the season. However, that number could be a very small part of his overall incentives-based earnings after this week. Here are the remaining incentives still in Mayfield’s deal:

  • Another $1 million for making the playoffs is tied to those playing time incentives.
  • $300K for finishing top 10 (NFL) or top five (NFC) in each of the following categories:
    • Passer rating: Currently ninth in NFL, fifth in NFC
    • TD passes: Currently fourth in NFL, fourth in NFC
    • Passing yards: Currently eighth in NFL, fifth in NFC
    • Completion percentage: Currently 18th in NFL, 10th in NFC
    • Yards per pass attempt: Currently ninth in NFL, sixth in NFC

Mayfield also has additional incentives in his contract in the coming weeks if the Buccaneers make the playoffs. He would earn an additional $250,000 per win through to the Super Bowl, with a potential total of $1 million in further incentives.

Jordan Love, QB, Packers – Escalators for 2024

Jordan Love does not have incentives in the traditional way in his deal, but he has several potential escalators in his deal which would increase the value of his contract in 2024. The maximum he can achieve with escalators is a $9 million increase.
