As rookies are starting to report to training camps, the beginnings of the NFL preseason are taking shape. With training camp and the preseason schedule come weeks of hard and competitive practice. What Are NFL Joint Practices?
So, what is a joint practice in the NFL? While teams will practice amongst their roster during the regular season, postseason, and offseason workouts, some teams will agree to hold a joint practice with another franchise.
Typically, these sessions are held the week before a preseason matchup between the two franchises. The visiting team travels for a couple of days and participates in joint practice sessions at the host’s training camp site.
While preseason games can get players somewhat close to a regular-season simulation, some coaches prefer watching their players in joint practice. The controlled atmosphere of drills and scrimmages allows players to showcase their talents with fewer injury concerns. 2024 NFL Joint Practice Schedule
Thirty teams have agreed to hold sessions across 22 joint practices. The only teams keeping to themselves this preseason are the Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders.

On the other hand, the Los Angeles Rams have four sessions scheduled, one against each of their preseason opponents, then an additional joint practice against the Los Angeles Chargers to kick things off. The Miami Dolphins and New York Jets join them with joint practices scheduled before all three preseason games.
