The future of Aaron Rodgers in the NFL is still up in the air. He hasn’t yet decided whether he even wants to play next season, but he met with the Pittsburgh Steelers as a potential starting quarterback, which suggests he might be leaning toward playing another year.
While the two sides didn’t reach a deal, things look promising. NFL insider Pat McAfee shared what he’s heard about how the Steelers’ meeting with Rodgers went.
Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers
The meeting between Pittsburgh and Rodgers reportedly went well, and based on what McAfee has heard, there could be a future between the two sides.

“It sounded like the meeting between Aaron Rodgers and the Steelers went really well,” said McAfee.
Rodgers is a close friend of McAfee, so he might know more than most. He regularly appears on “The Pat McAfee Show” and often shares insights about his career. Rodgers hasn’t been on much recently, though, as he’s focusing on a major career decision. But McAfee saying the meeting went well carries some weight.
The Steelers have been active this offseason, with no move bigger than the addition of DK Metcalf. With Metcalf and George Pickens on the outside, the team needs a quarterback who can get the ball to them. Rodgers could fill that role and give Pittsburgh a real chance to take a step forward next season.
The Steelers haven’t won a playoff game since 2016, back in the Ben Roethlisberger era. They’ve made the playoffs five times since that last win but haven’t made much noise. They’ve tried drafting quarterbacks, signing veterans, and using bridge QBs — but nothing has worked.
Thus, turning to a four-time NFL MVP might be Pittsburgh’s next move.
Rodgers’ Performance Last Season
With the New York Jets, Rodgers didn’t have the season he had hoped for. After tearing his Achilles in Year 1, this past season was supposed to be the one to end the Jets’ playoff drought. But after a rough year and a 5-12 finish, the team decided to move on and let him explore new options.
Rodgers threw for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions on the year. While it wasn’t vintage Rodgers, he was still a capable starter and finished 21st in PFSN’s QB+ metric with a 72.2/C- grade.
Rodgers struggled from a clean pocket and had a tough time converting on third downs. Still, there’s reason to believe he has something left in the tank if he decides to suit up again.
Right now, the Steelers could use Rodgers, and they may be the best fit for him. If the meeting did actually go well, he could be wearing black and gold next season and trying to help get Pittsburgh back to the top.
