NFL games today: Is there Thursday Night Football tonight?

There are no NFL games today. Week 3 of the preseason concluded when the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Detroit Lions 19-9. It was a disappointing finish for the Lions, who have been the darlings of the offseason thanks to their appearance on this year’s Hard Knocks series.

Yes, the preseason is over, but do not fret! The regular season is only eight days away, kicking off on Thursday, Sept. 8. The Buffalo Bills and Los Angeles Rams will launch the 2022 NFL season in Los Angeles, where Matthew Stafford and the Rams won the Super Bowl a few short months ago.

Then, we can expect the typical NFL schedule to begin. We have a full slate of Sunday games, including some very interesting storylines. The season might be young, but one of the must-watch matchups of the year takes place Sunday afternoon when Baker Mayfield and his new team, the Carolina Panthers, travel into Cleveland to take on the Browns. After a very messy divorce, Mayfield has made it clear that he is looking to exact revenge on his former team.

Later on in the evening, we have a Sunday Night Football matchup between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Dallas Cowboys. This one should also be quite interesting, with both these teams having high expectations in the NFC. Will a rash of offensive line injuries hurt Tom Brady and this Buccaneers offense? Can the Cowboys overcome significant O-line injuries of their own? Time will tell.

The first week comes to a close on Monday night when the Denver Broncos take on the Seattle Seahawks. With the Seahawks officially announcing Geno Smith as their starter for the beginning of the season, it will be Smith against longtime Seahawk Russell Wilson.
