Aaron Rodgers and the New York Jets suffered their seventh loss of the season in Week 10 against the Arizona Cardinals. They lost 31-6 as New York continued to struggle on both sides of the ball.
With the Jets all but certain to miss the playoffs, there was speculation about whether Rodgers would continue to play football beyond this season. The four-time NFL MVP recently made his stance clear on retirement rumors, which sparked reactions from Jets fans on social media.
Fans React to Aaron Rodgers’ Comments
Rodgers has struggled in his first season back from the Achilles injury. In 10 games this season, he has thrown for 2,258 yards, 15 touchdowns, and seven interceptions, completing 62.4% of his throws. The Jets quarterback has a passer rating of just 86.8, his worst since he became a starting quarterback in the league.
Despite his poor play on the field, Rodgers has no intentions of retiring. The 40-year-old veteran is planning to play next year. Jets fans were not happy after their quarterback confirmed he’d continue playing as they wanted the franchise to start over completely.

“I hope he doesn’t; it’s been a disaster with him on this team,” wrote one fan.
“Retire, please, you’re done,” said another user on X.
I’m not sure how this will go for potential HC candidates. Some will probably want to stay away. Some might see it as an opportunity to pick a rookie QB and have an all-time great as the bridge QB. https://t.co/2NosDHarlq

In 2023, Rodgers signed a restructured three-year, $112.5 million contract after getting traded to the Jets. He still has one year left on his deal, and all signs point to him playing in New York next year.
The AFC East franchise will be in the hunt for a new head coach after this season, and Rodgers’ staying on the team could have both a positive and negative impact, depending on the candidate.
If the season ended today, the Jets would have the eighth overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, putting them in an ideal spot to draft a quarterback. It will be interesting to see what the franchise will do, as they already have a young quarterback on their team: fifth-round pick Jordan Travis from the 2024 NFL Draft.
Jets Will Host the Struggling Colts in Week 11
The Jets have lost six of their last seven games and have fared worse since firing Robert Saleh. In Week 11, they will host another struggling team, the Indianapolis Colts, who are also on a three-game losing streak. Both teams can still make the playoffs and are desperate for a win.
After trying out Joe Flacco for two games, the Colts have gone back to Anthony Richardson, and the rookie quarterback will start against the Jets.
The Jets’ defense has been disappointing since Saleh’s departure, allowing an average of 25.8 points over the last five games. They gave up 31 points to the Cardinals last week and need to show up against the Colts on Sunday.
The Jets’ offense is currently averaging 17.7 points per game, which will not get the job done, considering how their defense is no longer elite. Rodgers will have an opportunity to rebound from a subpar performance against the Cardinals, as the Colts have the league’s fourth-worst passing defense.
