Zion Williamson Trade Los Angeles Lakers Must Consider Offering Pelicans

I believe the Los Angeles Lakers should attempt to land Zion Williamson from the New Orleans Pelicans.

Zion Williamson is one of the most dominant players in the NBA when he is healthy.

The Duke legend is currently averaging 22.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.1 steals per contest while shooting 58.3% from the field in 33 games.

Zion Williamson Trade Los Angeles Lakers Must Consider Offering New Orleans Pelicans

One team that should consider making a trade for Williamson is the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers have an intriguing roster led by Austin Reaves, LeBron James and Luka Dončić.

That said, there are questions surrounding the future of James.

Williamson could provide them more depth with (or without) James going forward.

In addition, he is just 25 (which fits more with Dončić’s age).

The Lakers have several expiring contracts such as Rui Hachimura, Maxi Kleber and Gabe Vincent.

Those salaries would make a deal work (without any long-term risk for the Pelicans), and the Lakers could add several draft picks to entice them to make the deal.

Why Should The Pelicans Make The Move?

Overall, Williamson’s tenure in New Orleans has been a massive failure.

Despite two trips to the NBA All-Star Game, the 25-year-old has been unable to stay healthy (and has never appeared in a playoff game).

This move would maintain the Pelicans’ financial flexibility and the addition of draft capital.

Williamson was the first pick in the 2019 NBA Draft after one season of college basketball.

He has been with the Pelicans for his entire career.

Via Real App (on January 9): “Zion Williamson ties Giannis for the 6th most games ever with 30+ PTS on 85%+ FG.”

Right now, the Pelicans are the 15th seed in the Western Conference with a 12-37 record in 49 games.

They have gone 4-6 over their last ten games.

On Friday night, the Pelicans will host the Memphis Grizzlies in New Orleans.

As for the Lakers, they are currently the sixth seed in the Western Conference with a 28-18 record in 46 games.

They have gone 5-5 over their last ten games.

On Friday night, the Lakers will play their next game when they visit the Washington Wizards.
