Ten-time All-Star Anthony Davis is in a confident mood this summer. The Washington Wizards big man has been sidelined since his trade from the Dallas Mavericks at last year’s deadline. However, he has made the bold claim that he will play all 82 games for the Wizards next year.
While we will wait to see if that prediction comes to pass, he was recently asked by a fan at Fanatics Fest whether a return to the Mavericks was on the cards.
Anthony Davis Makes His Feelings Clear On A Possible Mavericks Return
At this year’s Fanatics fest event in New York, a fan excitedly asked Davis during a livestream about a possible return to the Mavs, who dealt him at the previous deadline. His response was blunt and unequivocal.
The fan asked, “A.D are you coming back to the Mavs?” Davis, whilst walking past, turned around and shook his head: “Hell nah, they don’t want me.”

This response is hardly a surprise. His time in Dallas didn’t work out, to say the least. Playing in only 29 games during his entire spell in Dallas. He and his teammates were roundly booed during his spell as fans protested the team’s controversial decision to acquire Davis in a deal that sent their beloved franchise icon, Luka Dončić, to the Los Angeles Lakers.
That, along with his numerous injuries, made for a difficult time for the star big man. The Mavericks called time on his Mavs career by trading him for cap relief to build around Cooper Flagg.
The Wizards, therefore, offer him a fresh start and an opportunity to establish his health and dominance, partnering with Trae Young, Kyshawn George, and newly drafted AJ Dybantsa.
As of right now, it appears unlikely that he will be moved from the Wizards. According to Yahoo Sports, Wizards GM Will Dawkins shut down all trade calls for Davis, very much with the intention to pair him with Deandre Ayton in their newly built frontcourt.
There has been speculation, however, that the Golden State Warriors would love to acquire Davis and pair him with his friend LeBron James, with whom he won a championship for the Lakers. James is currently a free agent, but the Warriors have been seen as a potential destination for the legendary star.
However, according to NBA insider Shams Charania, there has been no traction in trade talks between the Warriors and the Wizards for Davis, which leads the insider to believe that the Warriors are likely behind in their pursuit of James.

With that in mind, Davis has apparently attempted to recruit James to the Wizards, according to an interview at Fanatics Fest: “Maybe, we’ve had conversations,” said Davis guardedly about having James join him in D.C.
However remote the possibility of James joining the Wizards, the fact that Davis is seemingly recruiting stars to join him and that the Wizards GM has shut down trade talks is a strong indicator that he will be a Wizard this coming season.
