Warriors Star Stephen Curry Makes NBA History With Impressive 3-Pointer Against Hawks

Stephen Curry makes NBA history vs the Hawks, in a rare scoring milestone despite Warriors loss.

Stephen Curry added another milestone to his legendary career Sunday (Jan. 11) night. However, the Golden State Warriors came up short against the Atlanta Hawks, losing the game 124-111.

Stephen Curry Added Another Record to His Name

The Warriors hosted the Hawks on Sunday, Jan. 11, at Chase Center in San Francisco. During the game, Curry made NBA history with a long-range shot that placed him and his father among the league’s most prolific scoring families.

As Curry knocked down one of his trademark high-arcing 3-pointers, a graphic appeared during the broadcast highlighting a historic achievement. Stephen Curry and his father, Dell Curry, now rank second all-time in combined points scored by a father-son duo in NBA history.

Together, the Currys have scored 38,896 points. Stephen Curry accounts for 26,226 of those points, while Dell Curry finished his career with 12,670 points.

The top spot on the list belongs to LeBron James and his son Bronny James, who have combined for 42,692 points. LeBron has scored 42,601 of those points, while Bronny has contributed 91 so far in his young career.

The moment was shared by the Warriors on NBC, which posted the video clip of the play and the broadcast graphic on social media.

Dell Curry played 16 seasons in the NBA from 1986 to 2002, spending most of his career with the Charlotte Hornets. He won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award in 1994 and remains one of the most important players in Hornets history. Dell is second on the franchise’s all-time scoring list with 9,839 points, trailing only Kemba Walker.

Stephen Curry has long surpassed his father in individual accolades and records. He is the NBA’s all-time leader in made 3-pointers, now sitting at 4,199 for his career. Widely regarded as the greatest shooter the game has ever seen, Curry continues to redefine long-range scoring even in his mid-30s.

Curry Shines, But Warriors Lose to Hawks

Against the Hawks, Curry finished with 31 points, three rebounds, and five assists. He shot 11-of-21 from the field but struggled from deep, making just three of his 11 attempts from beyond the arc.

Despite Curry’s effort, the Warriors fell to the Hawks 124-111. Golden State struggled with ball security, committing 16 turnovers that led to 28 Atlanta points. The Hawks, by comparison, had only nine turnovers and allowed just 11 points off them.

Golden State also had trouble from 3-point range as a team, shooting 10-of-42 from deep. After the game, Curry credited Atlanta’s defense for disrupting the Warriors’ rhythm.

“You’ve got to credit their defense. They have a lot of athleticism,” Curry said, according to Warriors beat writer Sam Gordon.

The loss snapped some momentum for Golden State, which entered the night having won seven of its previous 10 games.

Even with the defeat, Curry’s individual season remains strong. He is averaging 28.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 4.7 assists per game while shooting 47% from the field and 39.1% from 3-point range during the 2025-26 season.

The Warriors are now eighth in the West with a 21-19 record. They will be back in action against the Portland Trailblazers on Tuesday, Jan. 13.
