‘Would Love to Play Together’ — Warriors’ Stephen Curry Breaks Silence On LeBron James Rumors Amid Free Agency

Warriors legend Stephen Curry has made it clear that he'd love to play with LeBron James amid the recent free agency rumors.

The Golden State Warriors had structured their offseason around the possibility of landing LeBron James. It’s believed that Draymond Green declined his player option specifically to create financial flexibility. James announced he was leaving the Los Angeles Lakers last week and has been taking his time, with his agent Rich Paul making clear a decision is not imminent.

Through all of it, Stephen Curry had stayed quiet on the subject publicly. That changed on Wednesday, when the four-time champion finally addressed the rumors.

Stephen Curry Speaks Out About LeBron James Rumors

“I’d say more so I’m interested to just play golf with LeBron. We’ll handle the basketball stuff, but I want to see the golf LeBron free agent. He’s out here really grinding on the game. But I’m sure we obviously would love to play together. I mean, hopefully it happens. But he’s deserved the opportunity and the right to take his time with the decision,” Curry said.

Paul, on his “Game Over” podcast with Max Kellerman, specifically listed golf with Curry and Green as one of the genuine reasons James is considering the Warriors. Paul called it “tremendous” and placed it alongside high-IQ basketball and Joe Lacob’s ownership as reasons the Dubs have real appeal.

Curry and James defined a generation of NBA rivalry, meeting in four consecutive NBA Finals from 2015 to 2018. Later, James clearly stated that Curry was the active player he would most want to play alongside. They also won Olympic gold together for Team USA in Paris in 2024.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported earlier this week that the Warriors are not viewed as a frontrunner unless they can pull off a trade to also land Anthony Davis. That trade would almost certainly require Jimmy Butler, who is on an expiring $56.8 million deal and recovering from a torn ACL, going the other direction to the Washington Wizards.

Curry is clearly not dropping any cryptic updates right now, but the Warriors star has made it clear that his rival deserves the time he is taking to decide.

James is weighing multiple factors, including his championship aspirations, family, and his own happiness. Only time will tell where he lands for the 2026-27 season, but Curry obviously hopes that he’ll choose Golden State over other suitors like the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and Philadelphia 76ers.
