Victor Wembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs have been one of the teams to beat this NBA 2025-26 season. The stacked Western Conference unit sees them second in the standings with an impressive 42-16 record.
At the time of writing, the Spurs also have the league’s best winning streak, with 10 consecutive wins, the latest against the Toronto Raptors. Wembanyama has been a vital cog in the team’s success this season as he continues his strong surge.

Bold Victor Wembanyama Prediction as Spurs Continue Strong Showing
Per SportsCenter, NBA insider Brian Windhorst believed that Wembanyama was on the same journey as former NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal. The four-time NBA champion was a force during his time with the Orlando Magic, making them a powerhouse as they made the playoffs on the back of his scintillating two-way play.
“Scott, I have an announcement. I have made hotel reservations in San Antonio,” Windhorst said. “And the reason is that there’s a certain hotel I want, number one. Secondly, Victor Wenbanyama is so special, okay. And my instincts of 23 years covering the NBA are that a team that has never played in a playoff game together is not winning 12 playoff games in the Western Conference. That’s what my instincts tell me.”

Windhorst then added that his theory might be wrong after watching the French phenom and a young Spurs side.
“I am taking the impossible off the table. The last time we saw a team go from having basically no playoff experience together to reaching the finals was the Shaq team in Orlando in the 90s. I was a kid, I was in high school, and I watched it. You may have a Shaquille O’Neal here.”
That said, he added that he would still take defending champions OKC Thunder to go the distance this time around as well. The Thunder lead the West with a 45-15 record and have the most wins so far this season.
As for Wembanyama, the center has led from the front, averaging 24.0 points, 11.2 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 1.2 steals, and 3.6 blocks in 44 games this season. He is also the season’s leader in blocks per contest.
The Spurs’ intense play on both ends of the floor, coupled with Wembanyama’s extraordinary two-way skills, has made them legitimate playoff contenders this season. Only time will tell if they can pull off a Shaq-led Magic’s run to the NBA Finals.
On the games front, Wembanyama and San Antonio continue their five-game road trip, starting with the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday. They play the New York Knicks and the Philadelphia 76ers after.
