It has been a difficult week for Tyrese Maxey on the court, but life away from basketball brought some genuinely joyful news. The Philadelphia 76ers All-Star guard is currently sidelined with a sprained right fifth finger. And in the middle of all that, he and his girlfriend, Myra Gordon, had a major personal announcement to share with the world.

Tyrese Maxey and Girlfriend Myra Gordon Announce Pregnancy Amid Injury Concerns
Gordon revealed the couple is expecting their first child together through an Instagram post featuring a series of photos of Maxey and her celebrating the moment. Her caption read simply: “i carry her while he carries us 🫶🏽.”
Maxey responded in the comments with “MM 🫶🏾” and also shared one of the images to his own Instagram story.

The announcement followed a personal message Gordon had shared on her 24th birthday, in which she reflected on a transformative year. “Year 24. Beyond blessed for every trial, tribulation, and obstacle this past year brought my way — each one shaped me into the strongest version of myself yet. I know now it was all preparing me for this next chapter,” she wrote, before adding a direct message to the baby: “Baby M, your mommy is so excited to meet you. You’re already surrounded by more love than you could ever imagine.”
The timing of the news drew significant attention across the basketball world, arriving during one of the more turbulent stretches of Maxey’s season. The injury happened late in Philadelphia’s 125-116 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday, when Maxey collided with teammate Adem Bona while diving for a loose ball with just 16 seconds remaining.
NBA insider Shams Charania quickly reported the severity of the situation: “76ers All-Star Tyrese Maxey suffered a sprain of the right fifth finger and is out for the next two games. He will undergo further testing and consultation on next steps.”
76ers in Trouble With Maxey and Joel Embiid Both Out
The injury could not have come at a worse time for Philadelphia. With 19 games remaining in the regular season, the 76ers are now without their top two scorers simultaneously.
Maxey is averaging 29.0 points and 6.7 assists per game, while Joel Embiid, who has been sidelined since February 26 with a right oblique strain, is posting 26.6 points and 7.5 rebounds.
To make matters more complicated, third-leading scorer Paul George is serving a 25-game suspension for violating the NBA’s anti-drug policy and will not be eligible to return until March 25.
Philadelphia currently sits eighth in the Eastern Conference at 34-29, just half a game behind the sixth-place Orlando Magic. The playoff picture remains very much alive, but the margin for error is shrinking fast.
If Maxey’s absence extends beyond the initially projected two games, which Charania noted is possible pending further testing, the 76ers could find themselves slipping toward the play-in tournament, or worse, watching the postseason from home entirely.
For now, though, the basketball concerns take a back seat. Maxey and Myra are expecting, and that is the kind of news that puts everything else in perspective.
