Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton was present courtside during his team’s game against the Toronto Raptors on Sunday, Feb. 8, at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. Unfortunately, the two-time NBA All-Star had to witness a double disappointment. The Raptors steamrolled the Pacers 122–104, and teammate Johnny Furphy suffered a scary knee injury, leaving Haliburton visibly shaken.
Tyrese Haliburton Has a Heartbreaking Reaction After Johnny Furphy’s Knee Injury
The Pacers entered their matchup against the Raptors with a 13–39 record, dead last in the Eastern Conference. They were riding a three-game losing streak and hoped to salvage a win against the fifth-seeded Raptors.
Instead, they couldn’t prevent a fourth straight loss. More concerning, however, was the frightening injury to their young forward, Furphy.
The 21-year-old Australian went up for a dunk in the third quarter. He managed to throw it down but landed awkwardly and immediately collapsed to the floor, clutching his right knee in pain.

The second-year Pacers forward was helped off the court. While he initially walked toward the bench with assistance from teammates, Furphy was later taken to the locker room in a wheelchair. The Pacers subsequently announced that he would not return to the game.
Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle provided an update on Furphy’s condition during the postgame press conference.
“We’re not sure about the Furphy situation. He’ll get testing tomorrow in New York, and we’ll see where things are,” Carlisle said.
The reactions from Haliburton and Carlisle following Furphy’s injury underscored the seriousness of the moment.
The pain and shock on Haliburton’s face were evident as the Pacers superstar stood with his hands folded, touching his forehead. Carlisle reacted similarly, placing his hand on his head, with heartbreak written all over his face.
The scene was painfully familiar to Haliburton. The 25-year-old guard suffered a season-ending right Achilles tendon rupture during Game 7 of the 2025 NBA Finals.
He underwent surgery, sidelining him for the entire 2025–26 season. Having experienced that ordeal himself, Haliburton clearly understood the gravity of the situation as he watched Furphy go down.
Furphy, drafted No. 35 overall in the 2024 NBA Draft, has carved out an integral role in the Pacers’ rotation. The former Kansas Jayhawks standout has appeared in 35 games this season, starting 21 of them.
Before his injury against Toronto, Furphy recorded four points, two rebounds, and three assists in 15 minutes, shooting an efficient 66.7% from the field.
Overall, Furphy is averaging 5.1 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game while shooting 43.6% from the floor and 31.4% from three-point range this season.
Furphy’s injury appears concerning, and further testing will provide more clarity. Meanwhile, the Pacers, already without Haliburton and Obi Toppin, are set to face the New York Knicks on Feb. 10, to continue their road trip.
