After a disappointing 2024-25 season where the Phoenix Suns’ supposed super team of Devin Booker, Kevin Durant, and Bradley Beal stumbled to a 36-46 finish and missed the playoffs, many wondered what the future held for Phoenix.
The Suns agreed to trade away Durant to the Houston Rockets on June 22. Now, just weeks later, they have expanded that trade into a seven-team deal that involves some of the biggest franchises in basketball.
Historic 7-Team Deal Reshapes Multiple Rosters
The Athletic’s Fred Katz reported that the expanded trade involves seven teams: the Golden State Warriors, Los Angeles Lakers, Atlanta Hawks, Brooklyn Nets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Rockets, and Suns. This is the largest trade in NBA history, so it wasn’t easy coordinating such a complex deal with so many moving parts.
“In a would-be seven-team trade, there is an unprecedented amount of detail. Unfortunately, while a seven-team trade would make for a thrilling topic at a cocktail party, there haven’t been many unexpected developments in these negotiations,” wrote Katz in his report.
Here are the complete details of the trade:
Suns receive:
- Jalen Green
- Dillon Brooks
- Khaman Maluach (No. 10 pick)
- Koby Brea (No. 41 pick)
- Rasheer Fleming (No. 31 pick)
- Daeqwon Plowden
- 2nd-round pick
Rockets receive:
- Kevin Durant
- Clint Capela
Lakers receive:
- Adou Thiero (No. 36 pick)
Hawks receive:
- David Roddy
- 2nd-round swap
- Cash considerations
Timberwolves receive:
- Rocco Zikarsky (No. 45 pick)
- Two 2nd-round picks
- Cash considerations
Warriors receive:
- Alex Toohey (No. 52 pick)
- Jahmai Mashack (No. 59 pick)
Nets receive:
- Two 2nd-round picks
League sources say the trade will send:
• Kevin Durant, Clint Capela to Houston
• Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, Daeqwon Plowden to Phoenix
• David Roddy to AtlantaAll other elements of the deal are pick trades from draft night that are yet to be finalized. https://t.co/1FudHSljXn

Katz has shared via X the final details of the trade. The agreement could not be finalized until today, when league’s annual moratorium finally ended. This left the Suns enough time to expand the deal with the other franchises. In addition to the Durant trade, the Suns also included the moves that they made on draft night among other components.
What This Means for the Phoenix Suns Moving Forward
At the time the Durant blockbuster trade was agreed to, it already seemed like a massive reset for the Suns, but this expanded version of the deal makes it clear that Phoenix is going all-in on reshaping their roster from the ground up.
Durant’s move to Houston pairs the former MVP with rising stars Amen Thompson and Alperen Şengün. The Rockets get a proven scorer who immediately elevates their championship odds. For Phoenix, questions remain about whether Green and Brooks can develop chemistry with Booker and Beal while providing the defensive intensity the team desperately needs.
Green brings youth and athleticism to a Suns roster that was aging quickly. The 23-year-old guard averaged 21 points per game last season while shooting 35.4% from three-point range. His ability to create his own shot and attack the rim gives Phoenix another dynamic scorer alongside Booker. Brooks adds veteran leadership and defensive toughness, something the Suns lacked during their disappointing campaign.
In addition to Green, Brooks, and the three rookies Phoenix received, they also added a developmental project in Plowden. Though he only appeared in six NBA games with the Hawks and averaged 7.2 points and 1.8 rebounds, his G League numbers hint at untapped potential.
As previously stated according to The Athletic, Daeqwon Plowden is reportedly part of discussions for a 7-team trade stemming from the Kevin Durant deal. The Hawks are currently included through a Capela sign-and-trade.

While only shooting 30.2% from beyond the arc, Plowden still managed to average 15.4 points per game in the G League, showing his ability to contribute offensively. His energy on both ends of the floor could make him a useful bench piece for the Suns as he develops. At 6’7″, he provides the versatility to play multiple positions and could develop into a valuable role player.
This trade represents a complete philosophical shift for Phoenix. Instead of chasing another aging superstar, they’re betting on younger talent and depth. Green and Brooks give them immediate contributors, while Plowden represents the type of developmental project that could pay dividends down the road.
With this historic seven-team deal, the Suns have grabbed headlines and possibly changed their trajectory for years to come. Whether this youth movement can compete in the loaded Western Conference remains to be seen, but Phoenix has clearly chosen to rebuild rather than continue patching holes around an expensive core that couldn’t deliver.
