Spurs Star Victor Wembanyama May Be Able To Break a Guinness World Record, and It Has Nothing To Do With Basketball

Victor Wembanyama nearly broke a Guinness World Record while dropping 30 points in just 21 minutes against the Memphis Grizzlies.

The San Antonio Spurs’ star, Victor Wembanyama, has been electric this season, and despite injuries slowing his explosive start in recent weeks, the former Rookie of the Year continues to impress. He poured in 30 points in just 21 minutes during Tuesday night’s loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, showcasing his unmatched efficiency and dominance.

But during the game, he nearly accomplished something entirely unexpected, coming close to breaking a Guinness World Record, and it had nothing to do with his basketball talent.

Victor Wembanyama Is Confident He Can Break Guinness World Record for the Highest Kick

During the first quarter break of Tuesday’s game, four basketballs somehow became lodged in the net. Removing them the easy way would’ve been simple, but Wembanyama opted for something far more memorable.

Instead of reaching up, he leapt and delivered a flying kick, his foot nearly reaching rim level as he knocked one of the balls free. Just as impressive was how he landed cleanly on his feet, avoiding any awkward or dangerous fall.

The rim stands at 3.05 meters, and while Wembanyama didn’t quite make contact, he came remarkably close. For context, the Guinness World Record for the highest kick was set at 2.94 meters in 2000. Had the 22-year-old touched the rim, the record would almost certainly have been his.

The moment stood out even more, considering Wembanyama had missed the previous two games with a hyperextended left knee. While he kicked with his right leg, it’s the type of move a player doesn’t attempt unless he has complete confidence in his lower body.

When asked postgame whether he could surpass rim height, Wembanyama didn’t hesitate. “I can beat that,” he said. “I’m confident.”

Considering he was returning from a minor injury, Wembanyama certainly looked capable of reaching and possibly breaking the record with a few attempts. Whether he would pursue such a feat, given the risk an awkward landing could pose to his season, remains to be seen.

Despite the athletic display, San Antonio remained cautious and limited Wembanyama to 21 minutes of playing time. He still led the team with 30 points on 10-of-20 shooting, including 3-of-6 from three, along with five rebounds and three assists.

Wembanyama now has the second-most games in NBA history with 30+ PTS in under 25 minutes. For the season, he is now averaging 24.2 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.9 blocks per contest while shooting 52.1% from the field and 36.2% from three-point range in 23 games.
