The San Antonio Spurs suffered yet another unfortunate setback when Victor Wembanyama sustained a knee injury. Luckily, it was just a hyperextension, and he didn’t suffer much damage besides that. All that matters now is when he will be back, and as it seems, it will be soon.
The biggest takeaway is that the injury he suffered won’t be problematic in the long term. However, with the Spurs set to face off against the Memphis Grizzlies, we finally got the latest on his recovery.

Latest Update on Victor Wembanyama’s Return Is Good News for the Spurs
ESPN’s Michael C. Wright reported that Wembanyama has returned to practice with the Spurs, suggesting that his injury will not keep him out for too much longer. More than that, his questionable injury status also confirms he shouldn’t be limited when he does.
“I’m told that the nature of his injury, the fact that it’s just a bone bruise, well that won’t preclude him from playing in back-to-backs once he does get back into the lineup,” Wright said, as aggregated by the X account “Oh No He Didn’t.” “So, if Victor can play tonight and everything goes well, he should be a go tomorrow when the Spurs host the Lakers.”

The Spurs are currently 25-10, putting them No. 2 in the Western Conference. As impressive as that is, it gets better for them. The Oklahoma City Thunder have been sliding since their historic start. They’ve gone 5-5 in their last 10, which has dropped them to 30-7. The Spurs are four games back of them for the No. 1 seed, meaning it’s absolutely within their grasp.
Wembanyama’s return would obviously strengthen those chances of surpassing the reigning champions. There has been no doubt that he has elevated himself into an MVP candidate who has only been slowed down by two unfortunate, but not long-term, injuries. Luckily, they haven’t added up to much to get in the way of what San Antonio wants to do.
He and the Spurs’ roster construction give them a good chance against pretty much anyone in the league. As long as he doesn’t get any long-term injury, nor should he get another season-ending blood clot, this season has a good chance to be the Spurs’ best one since Kawhi Leonard’s last full season with the team.
Before getting injured, Wembanyama was posting 24.3 points, 11.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists, and 2.9 blocks per game while shooting a solid 52.5% from the field.
