‘Start Calling Him the Sneak Freak’ — NFL Legend Rips Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Handling of Impending Bucks Exit

Giannis Antetokounmpo faces criticism from Shannon Sharpe as the NFL legend rips his handling of an impending Milwaukee Bucks exit.

Giannis Antetokounmpo’s stint with the Milwaukee Bucks appears to be nearing an end. Trade rumors are dominating the lead-up to Tuesday’s 2026 NBA Draft, with insiders reporting a deal could materialize very soon.

While the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat have emerged as the primary suitors to land Antetokounmpo, NFL legend Shannon Sharpe refuses to let the two-time MVP play the innocent bystander in the blockbuster deal.

Sharpe delivered a blistering critique of the superstar on the latest episode of his “Nightcap” show.

“Ay, we gonna stop calling that man Greek Freak, we’re going to start calling him Sneak Freak because he sure trying to sneak his [expletive] up out of here without getting any [blowback],” Sharpe said.

“We saw this early on. I get it. He won a championship, he’s earned it! If he wants to leave, he can leave.”

Sharpe pointed out that some superstars like LeBron James fulfilled their contractual obligations before moving on.

James notoriously left Cleveland for Miami, returned to Cleveland, and then departed for Los Angeles. Through all that, the four-time champion never requested a trade.

Sharpe urged Antetokounmpo to take a straightforward approach and be transparent about wanting to move on from the Bucks.

“Giannis wants to leave, he done that. But bro just go and say, ‘Yes, my time is up here,'” Sharpe continued. “This notion that my wife is going to determine where we go if we go, my agent is handling all this. This is at your behest. No matter how well intended it is, somebody is going to be opposed to what you do.”

The tension between Antetokounmpo and the Bucks reached a boiling point during a disastrous 2025-26 campaign.

Milwaukee finished with a 32-50 record and missed the postseason. Antetokounmpo was limited to just 36 games, during which a rift opened when he suffered a left knee hyperextension in mid-March. He insisted he was healthy enough to play, but the Bucks disagreed and sidelined him against his wishes.

After an official NBA investigation into the Bucks and whether they violated the Player Participation Policy, the remaining trust between the front office and their franchise cornerstone was gone.

However, Antetokounmpo has not officially asked to be traded or publicly stated he wants to move on. This is because he doesn’t want to be seen as the villain, which is what rubbed Sharpe the wrong way.

As the Antetokounmpo trade talks heat up, Boston offers a fascinating alternative for the superstar as he looks to win another ring. The Celtics seem determined to pair Antetokounmpo with Jayson Tatum.

The Celtics are reportedly offering Jaylen Brown in a massive blockbuster package, with reports also indicating that Boston is open to a multi-team framework. However, the Heat remain interested as well, with an offer of Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., and draft capital.
