Kevin Durant’s trade saga doesn’t seem to be ending anytime soon. After an unsuccessful stint with the team, the Phoenix Suns star is reportedly looking to leave Arizona this year. He has not made it past the Western Conference Semifinals with the Suns so far.
Durant reportedly has no interest in joining the Minnesota Timberwolves, which means the Suns are stuck in a tricky spot. They will have to agree on a deal with the remaining teams, and that could be tough considering Durant’s age and expiring contract. With that said, NBA insider Shams Charania has dropped a massive update on the situation so far.
Shams Charania Names the Suns’ Main Focus in Kevin Durant Trade Talks
During an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” Charania spoke about how there are three frontrunners for the player currently.
“Miami, Houston, and Minnesota is where the focus of the Suns conversations are for Kevin Durant,” he said.

Charania claims that the Suns are holding strong trade talks with these three teams. However, as mentioned earlier, the fact that Durant isn’t interested in moving to Minnesota could mean that the Rockets and Heat may well and truly lead the race now.
The ESPN insider also mentioned how the San Antonio Spurs have not shown much aggression in the player so far.
“From my understanding, right now the Spurs haven’t been the aggressive team for Kevin Durant. Kevin Durant has a list of three preferred destinations: it’s the Spurs, the Rockets, and the Heat.”
“The Spurs have had a level of interest, I mean it’s Kevin Durant, like, who wouldn’t. But their timeline, compared to the assets and potentially what it would take to go get Kevin Durant, they’re just not on that time that Miami may be on, or Houston,” Charania added.
The Timberwolves may have to let go of one of their key starters, Julius Randle, or Rudy Gobert. That might be the only way to lure the Suns into making a deal. The Rockets and Heat will have to consider his expiring contract before offering a deal to the Suns, too.
Charania also mentions that the Rockets are unsurprisingly one of the frontrunners. They are looking to go into a win-now mode after recently qualifying for the playoffs under Ime Udoka. It would be quite interesting to see if Durant ends up playing for Udoka or the legendary Erik Spoelstra in Miami.
