Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Leaves Even Critics Emotional

Emotionally charged during his speech, SGA didn’t try to hold back while trying to thank his loved ones.

Starting with thanking his teammates, the Thunder star said:

“I would like to start this whole, I guess, speech with just thanking my teammates. I can’t say enough how much you guys mean to me, and not only as like a basketball player but, like, as family. I know you guys know, we do everything together, on and off the court.”

He emphasized that the award was theirs, too, even if it had just his name on it. He thanked the organization’s members, including the equipment and weight room guys, who had everything ready for the players.

SGA thanked his brother, referring to him as his twin and appreciating his endless support.

Speaking of his parents, the Canadian star joked about his mother being ‘crazy’.

He teared up while talking about his wife, leaving everyone touched with his heartfelt words:

“Then the one and only Hailey Summers. Sorry, I’m so dramatic. Hailey Summers, thank you for everything you are for me, for our son Aries. You were the first person to show me that love really meant.

“What love really meant, what sacrifice really meant. I can’t wait to spend the rest of this journey called life with you. So thank you for everything. I wouldn’t be the man I am, I wouldn’t be the player I am, I wouldn’t be the father I am without you, so thank you for that.”

Fans, impressed with SGA, swore off slander.

“I’m officially retiring from Shai Slander this made me cry,” one fan said.
“Can’t hate him as a person,” another fan added.

“Can’t hate on that,” one person wrote.

Some fans even called out those who were previously hating on SGA:
“This the man yall hating on?”

“Speech was amazing ngl, Jokic robbed tho,” one non-fan added.

“Beautiful speech, i’m happy for u, but u not MVP,” another user said.
Though some fans continued to call out Gilgeous-Alexander for drawing foul plays, most remained appreciative of his win.
Furthermore, Gilgeous-Alexander bagged 71 of the 100 first-place MVP votes, while Jokić followed in second place with 29 votes. Despite some stellar performances during the season, no other player received first-place votes.
Leading his team to the Western Conference Finals, SGA finished the 2024-25 season with 32.7 points, 6.4 assists and 4.1 rebounds per game while shooting 51.9% from the field.
Currently 1-0 vs. the Minnesota Timberwolves in the WCF,  Game 2 is scheduled for Thursday, May 22.
