Shai Gilgeous-Alexander posted 20 points and 10 assists against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday at the Paycom Center, once again pushing the boundaries of NBA history.
In a game where shots weren’t falling (OKC went 42-of-101), and the Timberwolves’ defense was suffocating (holding SGA to 7-of-22 shooting), the reigning MVP still clawed his way to a double-double, extending his historic 20-point game streak to 128.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Downplays Record Night As Thunder Beat Timberwolves
This feat comes just days after SGA surpassed Wilt Chamberlain’s 63-year-old record of 126 games on March 12th, 2026, against the Boston Celtics. Yet, for the 2024-25 NBA champion, it doesn’t seem as big a deal as everyone makes it out to be.
The Oklahoma City Thunder hosted the Timberwolves, and for the entire night, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander struggled from the field, which was very uncharacteristic.

The Timberwolves, led by the highly energetic and agile Anthony Edwards, contained SGA to one of his worst offensive performances. With Edwards locked in on him, SGA could only score 4 points in the first half, with OKC trailing by 47-53.
With two minutes left on the clock in the fourth quarter, SGA was just 17 points in the game and on the verge of breaking the hard-earned record of 127 games. At 1:46, he and Edwards were engaged in a contest with SGA, trying to go for a lay-up. But with Edwards defending the closeout, SGA decided on a step-back jump shot, luring Edwards out and drawing the desired foul call.
SGA could care less about the 20+ point streak:

Shai scored his 20th point from the charity line while fueling the Thunder’s 116-103 victory. But when asked about reaching the 128-game streak with 20+ points, SGA responded, “I didn’t even realise it until they were screaming after the free throw. I was kind of confused…Those type of things have never mattered. It is always about walking out of here with a W.”
He added, “If I have a night like I had tonight and we win the way we win tonight for the rest of the season I’ll be the happiest guy on earth. The winning is all that matters.”
The sheer longevity of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s streak is staggering, as he has not scored under 20 points in a regular-season game since October 30, 2024. His presence on the court drives the Thunder’s offense engine and gives them the edge over their opponents.

Despite SGA’s individual milestone, the focus remained on the Thunder’s 53-15 record, reinforcing their Western Conference dominance. OKC holds the 2025-26 season’s best defensive rating (107.5), best Net Rating (10.8), and an offensive rating (118.3).
With the Thunder currently riding an eight-game winning streak, individual records remain secondary for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who is pursuing back-to-back titles.
