Raptors Injury Report: Latest Updates on Scottie Barnes, Jakob Poeltl, RJ Barrett, Colin Murray-Boyles

Toronto Raptors injury updates and roster outlook as Darko Rajaković’s squad battles setbacks while maintaining elite defense and fast-paced offense.

The Toronto Raptors are one of the NBA’s biggest surprises. Head Coach Darko Rajaković has built a top defense while prioritizing transition play. The team has a lot of players who fit the system; however, there are some current injury issues to address.

What Are the Latest Injury Updates on the Toronto Raptors?

Scottie Barnes has emerged as one of the NBA’s most versatile players. While his presence on the injury report is alarming, ESPN lists him as Day-to-Day, while noting “Barnes is questionable for Friday’s game against the Wizards.”

Barnes is projected to make his second All-Star team this season. He’s averaging 19.3 points, eight rebounds, and five assists per game, while shooting 49.8% from the field and a career high 36.7% from three. He’s also a key part of the Raptors’ outstanding defense, averaging more than a block and a steal per game.

Barnes’ greatness has meant even more to the Raptors, as scoring wing RJ Barrett has missed over a month of action while rehabbing a right knee sprain. Barrett remains out indefinitely. He’s averaged 19.4 points per game while shooting 50.6% from the field.

While known for being an inconsistent defender at times, Barrett has bought into the system and is working to become more consistent on that end of the floor. There has been speculation that Barrett could be on the table if the Raptors look to make a big trade for a deep playoff run.

While trading a Canadian player may not be ideal from a public relations perspective, Barrett only has one year left on his contract, and other front offices have taken note of the Raptors’ signing of former All-Star Brandon Ingram to an extension. The Raptors would likely only make a Barrett trade at the deadline if they can acquire an elite player.

ESPN notes center Jakob Poeltl has been ruled out of the Raptors’ game against the Washington Wizards due to lower back pain. He’s averaging 9.7 points per game, which is his lowest scoring season in seven years. However, he’s currently shooting a career-high 69.3% from the field. His primary role in Rajaković’s system is to provide rim protection.

Rookie Collin Murray-Boyles has found his role on the Raptors. ESPN notes that the ninth overall pick is considered questionable for the game against the Wizards. Murray-Boyles is averaging seven points per game, while shooting 55.6% from the field. He’s also shooting 45.2% from three, which has quieted some initial concerns about his perimeter shooting.

The Raptors are building an exciting young core.
