It has been seven years since Dwyane Wade retired from the NBA. Wade is regarded as one of the greatest players in the league’s history. He is a three-time NBA champion, a one-time NBA Finals MVP, and a 13-time NBA All-Star.
Given these accomplishments, Miami Heat president Pat Riley believes Wade deserves to be mentioned alongside Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan.
Pat Riley Believes Dwyane Wade is on Par With Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan
When discussing the shooting guard position, basketball fans often think of Bryant and Jordan. Riley, whose statue was recently unveiled outside Crypto.com Arena, said that Wade should also be regarded as part of that distinguished discussion.
“I say this with all honesty,” Riley said. “I’ve watched them, my teams competed against Michael Jordan to the nail, and Kobe to the nail. If you look at Dwyane Wade and his style of play, he was right in that basket of how they played.
“You know, when he was young and athletic. Big hands and long arms. What a competitive attitude he had, all three of those guys — all 3 of them had the DNA in them. Dwyane was special.”

Drafted in 2003, Wade’s rise to stardom was swift. Among the prospects in the 2003 draft class, Wade was not expected to reach the level of his classmates LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony.
At the time, James was considered the greatest prospect to enter the draft, while Anthony was projected as his closest rival. Wade was frequently overlooked.
The Heat legend quickly proved his critics wrong, becoming the second player in his draft class to win an NBA title in 2006. He was named Finals MVP, demonstrating that he was on par with Anthony and James, if not superior.
Darko Miličić was the first from the class to win a championship in 2004 with the Detroit Pistons, but he never achieved the stardom of Anthony, James, or Wade.
Wade later helped James capture his first two titles after James joined him in Miami. While James was often viewed as the Heat’s leader during their run, Wade’s contributions were indispensable.
Given these achievements, Riley believes Wade deserves recognition alongside Bryant and Jordan.
While Wade is not generally considered the NBA’s greatest player of all time, he is widely recognized as one of the best shooting guards in league history. Many also argue that he is the greatest player ever to represent the Miami Heat.
