Toronto Raptors forward Scottie Barnes has quietly developed into one of the league’s most impactful young stars, and his recent stretch has only reinforced that. With Immanuel Quickley sidelined due to plantar fasciitis, Barnes stepped into a primary playmaking role and led Toronto to back-to-back dominant wins, including a 52-point blowout over the Orlando Magic.
His impressive performances have not gone unnoticed, as Magic star Paolo Banchero has heaped high praise on the two-time All-Star.

Barnes has been exceptional over the last two games, averaging 23 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 13.5 assists while orchestrating wins over the New Orleans Pelicans and Magic.
Against Orlando, he dished out a career-high 15 assists, setting up RJ Barrett and others in a 139-87 rout. He also added 3 steals, pushing his season total to a career-best 102, along with 109 blocks, making him the only player in the NBA this season with at least 100 steals and 100 blocks.
His all-around dominance did not go unnoticed. After the game, Banchero, who was held to 9 points, had high praise for Barnes and even hinted at how well their games could complement each other.
“That’s a guy you would love to play with, just off the strength of how he contributes to his team. He’s not really ever caught up in the scoring. He’s always trying to look to find others, guards at a high level, picks up full court. He’s always been a super impactful player in my eyes in terms of the stuff he does for the team. He’s just a winning player,” Banchero said, via the New York Times.
Barnes has been the Raptors’ undisputed leader on both ends of the floor, earning his 2026 All-Star selection. He leads the Raptors in minutes, rebounds, steals, and blocks, while ranking second in points and assists, making a strong case for All-NBA consideration.
On the other side, Banchero, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, continues to prove why he is the cornerstone of Orlando’s future. His ability to score, rebound, and facilitate has made him one of the league’s most versatile young forwards, earning him a five-year, $239.25 million extension that runs through the 2030-31 season.
He has already guided the Magic to two playoff appearances and looks set to add another, with Orlando currently sitting eighth in the Eastern Conference at 39-35. Individually, Banchero is averaging 22.6 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game while shooting 45.9% from the field.
With both players emerging as leaders of their respective franchises, a potential pairing remains purely hypothetical for now. But given Banchero’s admiration for Barnes’ all-around game, it is not hard to imagine how their skill sets could complement each other if they ever did share the floor, whether in an All-Star setting or, perhaps someday, beyond.
